Induction noise :-)

Hi There,

For any of you out there who like induction noise (I love it!) then a pair of induction cone filters might be a good idea .

Best thing about them is that below 4krpm they're not much louder than standard and then bang! Everything sounds a bit mental and harsh and metallic .

Gotta love these Cerbs .

How have you installed them?, have you taken the plastic pipes off the `carbon` looking trumpets and stuck the filters on the end?, if so, you will be sucking in a hell of a lot of hot air from the engine bay.

Popular misconception .. once you're out on the road moving you get the cold air coming in through the open filter casing .. you do pick up hot air whilst stationary .. but the heat soak into the std side plenums at standstill is as bad anyway on the std setup

The temp of the air actually going into the engine (if you measure it inside the plenums) doesn't vary much at all. In fact on the rollers (where you really struggle replicating the airflow of open road) the temp difference between the two set-ps is only 2 deg C

so the air sensor is not affected ?? as it not for the air temp just barometric pressure
for the ecu otherwise you would have a false reading ???as the filter is not near the sensor if you get my drift
mmmmmmm might get me some filters then any recomendations TRACKCAR ??? I USUALLY USE K&N's
any specific size (apart from the hole dia lol)

I have these on my 4.5 - the F1 type. They make a great induction noise , combined iwth decat and sports exhaust makes it rather loud.

I've fitted the K&N filter supplied by Tim (ACT) amazing fit too. took 5 mins to get in, it replaces the std spongy filter (mine was very dry and covered in crap).

the air temp sensor doesnt measure the air going into the engine anyway, it only measures the air in the air temp in the air filter casing

Here is a pic of my car with cones. They were on for about 750miles but I went back to std. As you can see the temp sensor was moved to the LH defuser.

I have these all clean in the workshop, so make me an offer if you like.

I never had it put on a RR so couldnt really tell.

Forgive my ignorance but I was wondering how these make such a difference to the induction noise?

No gains, but they don't clog as fast as the std filter so you keep your hp for longer before clogging kills the airflow.
we're seeing better results from other means though these days, but they were very good at the time

cheers for the quick response i will take the original foam filter out and duct the air to the engine can't do any harm, its ok to leave the air sensor where it is as its not an ECU critical thing i assume????

Hi There,

I have the BMC F1 filters and the Air temp sensor has been moved to the the filter which already has a hole ready to do this .

I was under no illusion that I would get any extra BHP but there are two things to consider here.

1) I love induction noise .

2) Each filter can flow 500bhp. Considering that my 4.2 will never need more than 185bhp per bank max then the filter can be 60% clogged and still fo the job. Not that I intend for it to get that clogged!

Induction noise is great and far more satisfying than exhaust note for me

Andy, they make the difference because there's less sound damping between you and those hungry TB's .

OH I'LL HAVE A LOOK FOR THIS HOLE IS IT IN THE SAME PLACE AS THE PIC ABOVE LEFT HAND INLET ???
I MUST BE GETTING BLIND or is the hole in the filter i did'nt want to drill the inlet opps sorry for the capitals
