I'm looking to add some better glass to my bag.

Ok so I've currently got these:

EF 17-40mm f4 LUSM
EF28-135mm f3.5-5.6
EF100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L IS

(Camera Canon 10D)

was thinking about:

70-200 is f2.8 - seems to be the best zoom out there atm
50mm f1.8 - great protrait lens and awesome sharpness
100mm f2.8 macro - best macro ?

any comments or other recomendations please ?

You've got most focal lengths covered, so it's a case of going for specific applications I reckon

The Sigma 105 Macro gives some great bokeh

Or you could go for a wide angle (Canon or Sigma are pretty comparable on the 10-20/22 models).

The 50mm 1.8 is a no-brainer given its price to be honest (although I really should follow my own advice, I still haven't got around to getting a copy )

I'd certainly suggest a prime anyway, given your current lens are all zooms. I find it much more challenging and fun using fixed focal lengths (one of the reasons I went for the 400mm L rather than the 100-400. Means I have nothing in the 200-300 range but I'll be fixing that shortly)

12-24 would have been better but is 40% extra greenbacks...you pays yer money etc.

Shadey...get the 100mm f2.8 Macro and the 50mm f1.8

Martin.

Seems like you've got a pretty good range there already, I wouldn't worry about the f2.8 medium telephoto at all unless you are really suffering focussing problems from a lack of light as the 100-400 ought to be excellent. I too would recommend something at the wider end or alternatively buying another body with a full-frame sensor. A 100-150mm macro lens would be good if you fancy doing some close-up work.

You've got good lenses already - Any of the ones you list are really good .... I have used all on a 10D and you wouldn't be disappointed with any of them. The Macro is really good, the 50mm exceptional value and the 70-200 f2.8 though expensive is an absolutely stunning zoom lens!
