Sprint ed goes Tuscan in 2007
Sponsors in place and "plenty of time"...
Deputy editor of Sprint magazine Howard Bryan will be moving up two classes next season to race an AJP V8 powered Tuscan Challenge Car for Team Wright Racing in the 2007 Dunlop Tuscan Race Series.
With sponsorship from Tradewoods and race car preparation by Grantura Engineering and Automedon, Howard has already purchased Mike Jordan’s Thames Valley Racetech Tuscan which came second in the series in 2001 and has a string of wins, pole positions and fastest laps to its credit.
The Tuscan will be returned to the track in its original John Guest colours at the end of this year and will undergo extensive testing through the winter in preparation for next year’s Challenge, where the team are looking to be on the pace from the start of the season.
With just one sponsorship placement left to fill on the car and plenty of time for development and testing, the team is looking forward to a successful 2007 campaign.

Now you see I'd be knocking on the door of John Guest ...
Good luck - nice to see these cars out again.
I offered to buy it towards the end of the 2004 season but the owner wanted more than I felt it was worth and was prepared to pay. It was subsequently advertised this year at somewhat less than the amount I offered previously and had turned down.
Anyway, it is excellent news that this car will be out racing again and will not turned into a track day or road car.

so as penance not only do you need to get the mighty thorpedo back out, you need to race your tuscan this year at oulton at least

Hmmm, thus far, I've let comments like that pass by, but now may the time to respond.
I bought a race Tuscan a couple of years ago with the intention of converting it into a 'fast' road car. I was going to buy a road-going version back in 1988 but they never went into production and had to be content with watching the big boys race them. The factory built 62 cars in total (source Reidy) and many must be rotting away somewhere only to appear on eBay in years to come as 'barn-finds'; easy restoration.
Thorpey and the crew at RT Racing, do not 'butcher' cars for road use, they (so I'm told) carefully re-craft the vehicles with care and sympathy
One day, before I die, I might find out for myself.

Thanks Andy, the car is currently as you remember it and still very tidy.
Roll on next season...
