Hi all,

Yesterday driving home, doing 40 in a 30,

now the Gatso was on other side of road and the lines were on the "other" side of the road, got flashed from the front...

is this possible

I know some front gatso's have a red glare strip

was it a mistake, I dont think there was any car on other side of the road ???

cheers

Go and learn about the various types of speed camera. A Gatso can only photograph the rear of the vehicle, so if it was a Gatso you have no problem. If. however, it was a Truvelo then your speed can be recorded from the front or the back. Truvelos don't have the graduated lines on the road, just 3 white strips close together and some black sensor strips just before them.
In fact it's quite fun to drive at speed towards Gatsos and waste some of the film! There is one near me and I do it regularly.

How fast do you have to go to do this (I mustn't be trying hard enough )

I did do some "learning" and all the pics I've seen of "gatso's" do look "differently" from the "Truvelos", and I suspect it was a Gatso and not a truvelo. And yes before I asked the question I did google it and yes it did come up that Gatso's photo from behind.

But as I am no EXPERT I wanted to ask the question as I was hoping that somone could confirm what I was thinking anyway.

The last I heard this board allowed the free posting of on topic questions. So there really is no need for any sarcastic replies
remember that when your replying to a question from a poster on this board.

I didn't intend that as a sacastic reply at all, I was merely trying to help. There are several sites which go into great detail about the various types of cash-camera and how each operates. They certainly informed me and that's why I know I can drive towards the Gatso near my village and make it flash to waste their film. It also confirms the trigger speed, which seems to be about 70 mph, certainly not less than that.
To give an example of what the camera info sites can tell you, the SPECS cameras only record registration number and time of passing them. The software, knowing the actual distance between them, then calculates the average speed between the two and if this exceeds the limit by 10% + 2mph or more, an NiP results. Some think the SPECS can also obtain a real-time speed reading as you pass them, which is not correct. Also, if you get right up close behind an HGV as you pass the first SPECS unit, you can then go as fast as you like without any risk (assuming a road with only 2 units on it.
Maybe knowing how each type works helps one not to get caught.

We'd one coming into a 30 limit on a dual carriageway, exiting the 30limit on the other side you had to do about 65 to get it flashing, (I used to do it a couple of time a week but it seems to have stopped now)

I set one off a couple of times from the oposite carriageway of a 70 Limit (120+) but not on that road to often. (Gives you one hell of a scare if you ain't expecting it)

Unless it has been set up incorrectly it won't use any film, they have three modes - approaching, receding and both. They can fit "dummy flashers" which flash for both directions, sounds like it had one of those installed.
