decent front end for MySQL?
Discussion
Hi all.
Do any of you bofins know of a decent front end for MySQL? I've tried Navicat and Webyog but was not impressed with iether of them. Dadabik looks good but i cant get PHP to run on my PC (i'm not much good with PC's)
I want to set up a database containing infortation on electronic components for my cad package to access. It would be nice to be able to create a form to enter comonent information individually, also to be able patse infromation in spreasheet style, and have a search facility. and it needs to be free
Thanks in advance...
Scott.

I use EMS MySQL Manager Pro - tons of functionality including import/export of data in lots of formats. Not cheap but worth the money.
I use:
CocoaMySQL (http://cocoamysql.sourceforge.net/) which is excellent to defining table and entering data
and
Aqua Data Studio (www.aquafold.com/) which is brilliant for writing queries
There are also some 'official' GUIs from MySql themselves - MySQL Query Browser and MySQL Administrator which are worth a look.
Edited to add: Oh
I missed the PC bit. Aqua Data Studio is multi-platform but CocoaMySQL is Mac only.

PHPmyadmin is a superb front end for mySQL but I'm not sure it's best suited to entering and interograting data. It sounds like you need a little website written up...
I've intsalled phpmyadmin but you are right its not that good for data entry. any pointers on how to do the above?

You can (or could in the past) use MS Access as a front end to connect to your mySQL database via an ODBC connector. I know it's not free, but depending on what version of Office you're using you might already have it.
Would be quite tempted by this option if it was me (and possibly query the usage of MySql at all given Access/MSDE/SQL Express)The best by far is Navicat - www.navicat.com/
I totally swear by it and bought a copy after it saved my life in my final year uni project 3 years ago.
Brilliant software!
