Right then!

I have a friend who has just taken delivery of a Boxster. This will be a "weekend" car, as he has a co. car as a daily hack. The car will be left on his parents farm, so there's lots of dust, muck and (literally) sh1t lying around.

He wants an outdoor cover for it, but from his and my research, it seems you can get either a lightweight cover that is "sort of" waterproof but breathable, or a heavy-duty one that is waterproof, but not breathable. The HD one sounds like the more suitable job, but you have to dry the car before you cover it.

Has anyone got any recommendations for which covers or manufacturers to look at?

TIA

I wouldn't recommend the Weathershield HD (I had 2 before, and the finish is not durable enough for the crap weather in this country).

The Coverzone Monsoon provides much better protection if the car is outdoors for days at a time, and it is also one third the price. Breathability is lesser of an issue in England - especially in more open/windy areas (your friend is on a farm) as the air circulates from around and under the car.

I have the covercraft Noah .. waterproof , breatheable ,don't need to dry the car before putting it on. You will need to tie it on though as you'll loose it in heavy weather.
They can be bought much cheaper by getting them in from the states...

Bought a Coverzone Monsoon for my Cayman after buying one for my 911 whale tail previously.

It's a good, strong protective cover that does a very good job at keeping the car dry (and stopping it looking so attractive to the bad guys), has straps to prevent it blowing off and the price isn't too bad at £140.

However, although it fit the 911 whale tail perfectly, it doesn't really fit the Cayman that well. It does go over it, but it needs stretching.

Much better than the £300 Honda-branded car cover for my S2000 - blew off the slightest breeze, let in rain & everything!
