Just noticed this on ITV-F1:

Now sure what its all about - any suggestions?

I would have thought the FIA would ban them from using them in a race as they did with Arrows X-Wing a few years back?

I don't know exactly what they do but it's probably the same as all the aerodynamic addenda in that it controls the airflow around the bodywork. I guess they're a bit like Williams' 'walrus nose' from a few years ago: looks spectacular but only makes a marginal difference. It must obscure the drivers' line of sight terribly.

I saw pictures of these this morning - bloody awful!

To me they scream "we don't know what we're doing!". Whether or not this is the case, I don't know...

Perhaps they are rigged up to turn with the steering. Acts like a rudder...

It does make you wonder what would happen if the front wing man were to be knocked over during an over zealous pit stop

Isn't it obvious? Following Heidfeld's roll at Indy, they are designed to give him a bit more protection!!!

There vertical projections are usually for tidying up the airflow for the rear wing.

They are a long way forward though.

I don't understand. Are you saying you don't think it'll be effective?
