This may be old news but...

If you've had problems with both windows lowering themselves or the car mysteriously unlocking the doors and/or front bootspace, there is a solution. I unfortunately learnt the hard way and had stuff stolen from my car a few weeks ago..hence the warning.

The keys are ultra sensitive (a lot of people think they are to blame..) but OPC have admitted that there is a problem that is easily fixable. Porsche have gone as far as to make a modification to newer cars (I believe from March 06) to eliminate this problem. Based on an 'off the record' chat, my local OPC principal mentioned that they are considering checking/fixing the issue as part of your standard service as they've had so many cases.

The reason for the warning is that a lot of insurance companies are aware of the problem and if the worst case happens, you don't want to get caught out for not having taken action to get the problem fixed... Filling out an insurance form where it says 'was the car locked' you really don't want to be putting 'erm... not sure'..!!

If you've had the problem (even once..) get yourself down to OPC and get it fixed... You have been warned..!!

Had one of the windows lowering slightly, but not enough for theft to be a problem.

However, front / rear boots popping open via ultra-sensitive keys... this is a bug bear of mine as I experience it often. Do you have any more information to ask my OPC or is it just that (in April they weren't aware of a fix - said that's just how the keys are)?

Yeap, we've got an over-sensitive key (keys?).

I'm suspecting that following a recent warranty job on the car, they (OPC) have done the fix amongst the other secret issues that the 987 suffers from. Shhhhhh.

Had exactly the same thing. For ages received annoying comments like 'the keys are very sensitive you know..' and 'are you sure you locked it..'. Went in twice before and nothing was found. After the theft I faxed the crime report from my local police station and that got them moving.

After a few times of the car unlocking I used to religiously check the car last thing at night with the keys still in the house and still occasionally found it unlocked in the morning. Yes, the keys are very sensitive but some cars have an inherent problem.

According to what I've heard the window lowering problem is due to the 'comfort' coding on the car. On 997 convertibles you can lower the windows and the top by using the key and on the coupes the windows by using the key (not sure about 987s?). When they put the same system in the coupes for the windows only its caused problems in a lot of cars (the same is in 987s/Caymans). To check, keep the door unlocking button pressed for a few seconds and see if your windows start to lower after the car has unlocked. If yes, ask your OPC to remove this code from your system. That will fix it as thats where the bust is.

On the doors/boot unlocking I just got my car back last week and it seems to be sorted. They confirmed that they did 'something' and I have asked for the technical report to be faxed. Once received, I will post asap for others.

my 996 key has never worked more than 2-3 mtrs away from the car.

would never go off if the keys where pressed in the house, mabe porsche did somthing to give them longer range. . . . . . .
