After me losing a couple of plastic covers (the 2 little plastic covers that clip into the plastic surround at bottom of windscreen) I decided to pop into Porsche Frejus (South France), made the order on Tuesday, collected today and went to pay the man and to my shock/horror/sheer delight he told me no charge (gratis)

How kind was that, very impressed!!!

I similarly was given a retaining screw for a brake disc at no charge. In view of the fact that I had drunk several cups of coffee, emptied the bowl of sweets and leared at the receptionist, I thought it was a "result".

I must go there more often.

I got a free packet of fags at my Porsche dealer this morning to complete my 'whore's breakfast' ensemble (i.e. coffee and a fag). Beats going to a petrol station. Must post piccies of the 997TT (not mine - just organised one for someone and it arrived this week).

I went into a Porsche main dealer in Aachen (Germany) on my back from Nurburgring last weekend with a blown bulb. They replaced it on the spot and also put it on the lift and checked out my rattling exhaust for nothing!

So what's with Britain? Another reason to grumble about Nu Labia, I bet!

My dealer was cool. I bought a 996 last weekend of him (porsche reading). The battery was knackered on Monday. He picked it up on a flat bed and returned it on a flat bed so no miles would be on it. He gave me a new 3 series for 3 days. While they sorted my car out and gave me a new battery they gave me a free service too . I was happy

I have been using my local OPC (Colchester) for the last four years. The service department are fantastic, always happy to help, give general advice and generally talk cars.

I appreciate their labour rates are a little shocking but they certainly appreciate that, and for the money they charge an excellent service is provided.

In addition, following a recent service and the dreaded advice that the RMS was "damp" I was advised that Porsche GB would contribute 100% of the replacement seal and 80% of the labour. I was completely taken by surprise when bearing in mind my car is a 2001, was not purchased from an OPC and nor does it have the Porsche warranty. Happy days - needless to say I can feel a new clutch coming on.

I was surprised as you!

Having been advised of the grim news I didn't even have to go into the well prepared rant of "its a common fault, shouldn't happen on such a performance marque etc"

I was mearly told "Porsche will offer you some assistance with that" he pulled out a little table, checked the mileage/age and hey presto I saved £800. Happy days

I know what you mean! I thought about asking for a copy but then decided I better quit whilst I was ahead!

My C2 is a Nov 2001 facelift model with 38K. I bought it in March with 30k on the clock - I have used it quite a bit!

In fairness, the car was supplied by Colchester OPC from new, they retailed it twice during its life and all the servicing has been completed by them.

Sorry. Over enthusiastic use of acronyms!

OPC stands for Offical Porsche Centre - main dealer to you and I although OPC is quicker to type!

If you are new to 996 ownership you will no doubt soon lose sleep over another acronym - RMS -Rear main seal, the oil seal that sits round the crankshaft and can only be accessed via removal of the gearbox, clutch and fly wheel (and it will also remove a reasonably large amount of cash from your pocket)

very sensible!

I wish I had been reading this forum before I took the plunge into ownership.

Perhaps I will ask for a Porsche warranty for my birthday!

Yes the RMS is covered under the warranty. Seems to be worth its weight in gold

I got it when I bought it. A years one. I will get a new one next year, 700 quid a year I believe.
