Le Mans winning Audi R10 beats RAF Harrier jet in 1 mile drag race - RAF Wittering, 13:15 today
Lined up on the runway was the number 8 car, the Le Mans winner, driven by Alan McNish (who brought the other Audi home in third) and a Harrier of no. 20 Squadron Royal Air Force. In the first run the Audi won narrowly, in the second wiped the floor with the Harrier (which was admittedly a bit higher).
Acceleration of the Audi was breathtaking, the plane sluggish (and much noisier!) and the car disappeared along the runway, crossing the line at 200mph. And it doesn't sound like a diesel even at idle!
