I've just received this email from The Point (gig venue in Cardiff Bay) regarding the above:

.......Sorry to get political for a moment, but we need to draw your attention to something called Controlled Parking Zones, which are being suggested for many areas in Cardiff, including the area around us at THE POINT. Currently, if you come to any shows at our venue, you can pretty much park for free. Cardiff Council intend to change that. They want to introduce parking meters or bays all around our venue, which means you'd have to pay AT LEAST £3 to park.. even on Saturdays and Sundays, and to 10pm at night!!! And that's just the price they're suggesting to begin with. A similar scheme in Camden in London began with low priced permits and meters - residents permits now cost close to £100! It is almost inevitable that the same would happen in Cardiff.
HOWEVER, businesses and residents in Cardiff are protesting against these plans. To cut to the chase, an online petition has just been set up where you can register your vote against these plans. Please go to www.no2cpz.com and click on the link to sign the petition if you don't want to have to pay these charges. And then spread the word around. With enough people we can get these plans dropped and get back to business as usual.......

If anyone would like to include their signature on the online petition, I'm sure the Council will have to think twice.

Done. Not a day goes by where Cardiff Council doesn't do something to pee me off.

Its the council that are causing the problems in the first place i.e. people who work at County hall have to park on Schooner way. I had seen plans to make a car park out of the waste land next to Rigarossa - I guess these plans were dropped due to it having to cost the council some money!

I had a questionaire through my letter box about this subject - I let them know what I thought.

I'll sign the petition after writing this mail

My missus has a business in city road and the charges there would affect her customers, where on earth does all our hard earned tax money go to.......certainly not on road maintainance or free public parking facilities...

Likewise - you can see clearly the County Council is creating this problem at Schooner Way - during weekdays the whole road is crammed full of employees' cars and after work and on weekends completely empty. It a real cheek to raise income this way and getting away scott free by creating road HAZARDS (often meaning cars/pedestrians) cant get past on that road AND the sidestreets in Schooner Way area. Its a coincidence the rules on parking in place/proposed are a bit light touch near County Hall ?!
