Well I was looking forward to a good trip down to Goodwood in the morning, but when I went out to check my car a few hours ago, I found that the drivers side foot well was a mm or two deep in water. The carpet is soaked. The front wall and the transmission tunnel appear dry, where is this water coming from. I dried it all out with kitchen roll and removed the carpet, then hosed all over the door, bonnet, wheel arch and windscreen seal. No water ! (although the windscreen seal isn’t as tight as I think it should be)

Is it coming in when I am driving? or with the rain ? I am stumped.

Anyway, even more puzzling is that while I was diving into the foot well to dry it out, I kept hearing a clunk click from the rear of the car. Sounds like the central locking. I kept mopping out and then kept hearing the noise. If I stopped, the clunk click stopped. I cant figure out if my head was knocking something, or it was something I was leaning on in the seat causing it, or when I was pressing on the transmission tunnel. I didn’t imagine it… did I ??? There was some solenoid firing somewhere I’m sure!

Were you outside the car at the time? You were probably leaning on the door switch (mounted in the sill). As you press and release the switch, it does operate a solenoid in each door lock (and the boot, I think).

Try rocking the car from side to side and see if you hear anything, maybe you've got a broken ARB mount or something like that?

My money's on Andy's suggestion. Easy to push the switch with your leg in this sort of situation

Had a great day at goodwood. I managed to dry the carpet out overnight by hanging it over the ovan door after the tea was cooked. My mate picked out a nice cross country route with his Tom Tom.

I will check the location of the door switch later... and try and figure out where this water is comming from.
