Stickiest tyres for 205 GTi???

Any opinions on the best sticky tyres for a 205 GTi?

It's mainly for track days, but needs to be road legal, and not completely insane in the wet. Wear isn't a massive issue, I'd rather have grippy soft compound and replace them more often.

Wheels will be the standard 1.9 15 inch speedlines.

I quite fancy the mad looking ones with bike treads (spot the expert, not) but not sure whether they are available in the right sizes. Can a real expert help me out here??

I had Toyo Proxes on mine, they were pretty good. www.mytyres.net has a decent price on them so i hear.

Best tyres are yokohama a520's, dead cheap at £40 a corner from Headley Tyres.

What about Dunlop Formula R's? They're available in 195/55R15, which will fit but might rub slightly under heavy cornering...

Excellent track day tyre, & road legal AFAIK.

Car not sorted yet, original completion date was end of Feb / early March. Just wanted to get the best call on tyres so there won't be any delay getting the right rubber on

Given a few weeks to get the necessary running in and final rolling road session, probably won't be able to hit the track until early April. Definitely will post some reports when it's all up to track speed!!

need to go for 195/50's to avoid rubbing

get a second set of wheels and speak to silverline wheels & tyres (somewhere near brum) they had a shed load of second hand 190 section 15" BF Goodrich slicks (used by the peugeot BTCC team for trial purposes) and were taking £22 a tyre.

Personally the A520's were superb, allowed the back end to slide very progressively. The slicks were considerably faster but glued to the track, which sounds good but in reality is boring.

Also the slicks offer increased g loads which give the engine a harder time.
