Having seen an R32 for the first time today I am rather impressed with the visuals and great exhaust sound ( no test drive as it was a customer's car).
They seem to be in very short supply and demand exceeds supply right now. Anyone know where they can be obtained, are there any discounts or is it over the odds and what do you think they will be worth in a year or two's time (Autocar came up with only 53% after 3 years) - more like another MINI situation?

I like the on-paper facts, the idea of a golf with the kind of power that most 4.0 chimearas never see is a fabulous.

Its just a bit too pipe-and-slippers though.

saw one the other day - lovely view of twin exhausts but in a horrible blue colour (the car not the exhausts)

Didn't get the chance to see it let rip as we were stuck at traffic lights with loads of numpties infront.

Quite,
18 months ago,was considering a BMW M Coupe (breadvan type) or waiting for the rumoured 4wd "Super Golf" to appear.
Anyway had a conversion , of Biblical proportions, on the Road to Damascus (well,Northwich actually)and bought a big old 5 litre Chimaera .
Suffice to say, looking back has not been an issue .
Might get an '03 R32 sometime in '06 when prices have softened- would make a nice week day appliance.

Hi
i took an R32 out for an extended test drive , they are fantastic little cars , very hard suspension and i would think it could be a drag on a long run , but i was totally in love with the little Gem .

great engine very responsive and a wonderful noise , you have got to get a drive in one the handleing is
very sharp ,,, the only thing putting me off ordering on is that i have run a golf 4motion for the last 3 years and feel i need a change , even though i need the practicality of a Golf ,,, i loved the R32

Pleased to hear that it drives well. Are you in Sweden? I do not know of anyone who has a demo car in the UK as they are very rare. My dealer has got the one ordered in Sept.
Only thing putting me off is the sales pitch that they are so rare and there are therfore no discounts. I was had like that before and bought the wife an Integra R. Five years on its worth less then 40% of its original price. Strangely it was in the same bracket price (£21k) as the R32's £22K. And they wack you for extras- leather 1900!

Hi Chrish
yeah im in Malmo Sweden and they have had a demo car for some time now ,, as for the rarity value of the car keeping residules up , im not sure how long or how many they are going to make , i would hope it would keep it value very well , but you never know , its exppensive for a golf , my 4motion cost £17,100 in 2000 and the R32 is around £23,000- now + £2000- for leather , but try and get a drive ,,,, i tell you they are a Hoot a real Hoot , much much better than the 4 motion

I originally ordered my R32 in September 2002 in the blue, with a delivery date of November. About a month later I was informed that if I wanted blue I would have to wait until April due to short supply of the blue paint???? Anyway, decided I couldn't wait that long and went for Silver instead. The car arrived in early January. First impressions are how low the car is, especially at the front - cause all sorts of problems when going up driveways, a degree in angles is definitely needed! The car appears to have fairly short gearing, but third and fourth are very good for overtaking traffic. The steering is well weighted and offers reasonable amounts of feedback. Cornering in both the wet and dry are very impressive given the weight of the car. All in all I'm very pleased with the whole package.

I would hope so - I test drove a V6 4motion 2 years ago and found it very front heavy. It understeered really badly even on dry roads and was, well, to be honest, dissapointing in the performance dept!

I opted for an Impreza P1 - much more interesting!

If the R32 comes close to that then I might just be tempted (shame about it only having 2 doors, though

In case anyone has missed it, the R32 engine is the same one as will be in the new Audi TT, which will also have a new type of sequential gearbox which makes instant up and down shifts. Much more interesting!

Stop all this V6 4Motion bashing I've got one and it's a fine shopping trolley/motorway cruiser, it doesn't need to go around corners........ and it's a stack cheaper to run than my dancing donkey which does go around corners...sometimes!

Ah, the one with 2 clutches. Interesting!! I wonder what those'll cost to replace?

Maybe I'm a hopeless optimist, but if there are two clutches then surely they are each doing only half as much work, so they will last twice as long? So the bill for replacement may be twice the size, but happens only half as often.

I am a hopeless optimist!

As I recall a double clutch system has been in use in busses for years now. Probably not as high tech as Audis implementation though.

Surely if you put the same size wheels as an R32 on a 4motion and the same steering rack and a chip it would be fairly similar...
