Check engine light - 996TT
Discussion
A friend of mine had this light come on whilst driving along today.
I know its impossible to diagnose whats the problem, but knowing how bullitt proof the 996TT's seem to be, has anyone here had the check engine light come on & if so what was the fault ? Is there any "common" faults that could trip the light (MAF ? other sensors etc)
Any thoughts would be helpful. Its being looked at tomorrow by a dealer but a quick diagnosis is needed !

When my MAF failed recently the ABS failure and PSM failure lights came on, they would come on when the car got a little above it's normal temperature eg sitting in traffic on a hot day.
Once the car was turned off and on the lights would go out, I took the car to be checked on the computer at Charles Ivey and they diagnosed the MAF.
Go to a Porsche centre, they'll plug it into the computer for free, if it is the MAF just buy the part and fit it yourself, some people recommend going to Bosch for the part as it's cheaper but I don't know whether that's a good idea or not.

Normally they have lambda sensor problems as previously said and are around £125 for a sensor..
The porsche tester will diagnose this quickly.
If you are in cheshire area i will put it on porsche tester F.O.C
Thanks
mike
P.S you can get air mass from bosch and alot of time it will have the porsche part number on the air mass sensor too !!

I had my engine warning light come on 10 days after delving deep for a much wanted 996TT .. Sh**t myself!
Turns out the plugs needed replacing (they weren't done at the service conducted when I bought the car). The old plugs were causing a slight misfire under heavy throttle - a short hesitation when changing gear from 2nd - 3rd was most noticeable.
A new MAF was also fitted and a leaking hose tightend (don't know which one but I would guess one of the turbo chargers)
My '01 car has only covered 16k miles .. The MAF problem seems to be a common trait!
result = unbelievable transformation in power delivery.
MAF / Leak covered under warranty and selling garage (private) kindly stumped up £350 for the new plugs and labour at my local OPC.
Like having a new car again.
