Chips question......

My car is running a 4.5 Red Rose chip. APM supplied it, the prev owner suggested that it made the car much smoother round town etc...
As the car runs a little hot in traffic in very hot weather I have just purchased the Trackcar chip for cooling. I assumed the chip was for elsewhere in the ECU but it seems it replaces the existing chip ie there isnt a separate chip for the cooling. doh!
Not sure what to do now! Guess I will try the chip but to be honest I am not sure about losing the Red Rose chip.
Any views or experiences??

tbh, if you don't have the airflow for the Red Rose chip then your probably not gooing to see much gain. They may have advanced the ignition slighty but again without the breathing mods then this will do little more than promote detonation. Saying that it will almost certainly be dumping more fuel in too and so this could potentially be loosing you power if it's running richer than 13.5/13:1.
Would be interesting to see how the chip behaves without the signal from the 95/97 switch too, it may default to it's 95 map.
Best bet would be to get your car plugged in while driving and check out the temps as seen by the ECU (more reliable sensor) and see if you really are running that hot. If not then stick with the RR chip. You could also switch the chips and check the 'cool' chip out and see if there is any difference in spark and fuel values too.

.I used to have the RR chip in my car, it was slightly smoother at lower revs compared to one or two other Cerbs I'd driven, but it made no difference to the power etc of the car. These chips were / are available from TVR Power for around £75 and quite a few Cerbs have had them fitted, for the money you pay they are probably worth it. Andy at APM had fitted it to my Cerb at the request of the previous owner (my car used to be serviced there
) and this was for the same reason as Gazzab.
I would be tempted to fit Joolz's replacement chip first and see what you think. Then you have the kind option offered as an alternative to have the RR chip modded instead.
I still have my RR chip and will be at TCS today so will take it with me, Joolz might be able to remap that one and send it to you and this will mean that you aren't without your Cerb?

It's your choice. My RR chip would be exactly the same as yours as they were both supplied through APM. I was just thinking that it would save you from being car-less for a couple of days. I would want your chip in return(so I could put it back in my old MBE ECU), but you could send that on receipt of mine.

There is always room for personalised services and some of the other dealers should take note.
On the chip front. I tried the TVR Power 4L chip in my Chim and Ian at Middlewich tweaked the airflow meter and boy oh boy did it smooth out the kangaroo sessions on that car park they call the M25.
I understand a top electronics guy at Warwick Uni designed them.

Well I must say I am impressed with Joolz !!!! What a fantastic service. He has created me a RR Chip with cooling changes added. And all turned round really quickly and with no charge. What a great service ! Now must fit it. Just wish I had asked him to slip a fuse or two in to the envelope! Oh and by the way - Wetter Water (Millers version) has made my car run much cooler in the hot weather ie 92 - 103 depending on traffic. Excellent. Think my gauge over reads by 8 degs. So running temp is pretty perfect. The cooling mod should help as well.
