"Service Transmission" error code
Discussion
Any ideas what the "Service Transmission" (with graphic of oil can) error means? Had a message come up on dash upon start-up. It went away and didn't come back. Local Monaro dealer checked but couldn't find any error codes on the computer.
Starting to worry about any strange noises from back axle - or anything.
Could it be clutch fluid, gearbox oil, diff oil, sun-spots?
It's on a 2004 VXR.
It's not that I'm paranoid but....................

Funny that, i had exactly the same whilst i was out at the weekend, circa 700 miles on the clock and the message appeared that i needed a service, funny i thought, and then the check engine light came on. Checked the usual, oil, water etc etc, and it disappeared, never to be seen again. Put it down to a glitch, and im certainly not worried about it. Strange though, dont ya think....

I occasionally get The "Service Soon" pop-up and a tune play for about 3 seconds when I turn the starter motor. Usually happens if the car has been running and I stop the engine but leave the aux power on and then restart the engine. The tune drove me mad earlier this year when I was in Devon and travelling on the Torpoint ferry every day. Put it down to a power glitch.
Had the 'service transmission' error message today; car wouldn't start - solenoid clicking like a dead battery.
AA man diagnosed a duff battery immediately...until he tested it and found it was fine. Jump start from his battery pack didn't change anything, engine earth is fine.
Tried a bump start - it runs for 2 secs then dies.
Tried turnng on-off a few times, no change except a fuel gauge warning message also now comes up! (The gauge itself works fine).
All relevant fuses were removed and replaced, none blown, none corroded, no change.
The AA fella suspected a poor starter conection (I was less convinced) but as he couldn't see the starter motor, let alone reach it, he admitted defeat and towed me home (luckily only 5 miles).
I'll let you know....

3 times I've had this in 15 months or so of ownership - it tends to be a message that appears after the car has been idle for a length of time:-
1st time - been in California working for 4 weeks, came home and during quick grub run it flashed up outside the takeaway in a place I didn't want to leave it...
2nd time - 2 months it had been lying when I moved out to Germany in June this year...
3rd time - had been lying approx 6 weeks while I lived in a company apartment a stones throw and a quick bus ride to work...
In the first instance of it happening as above I filled the bags as my first thoughts were (a) oh crap there's no monaro dealership within hundreds of miles and a boat trip of me, (b) will the tranny be covered under warranty if it is stuffed, and (c) how the hell do I get the car back to the house as it's bad enough leaving the monaro in that neighbourhood while I nip in for 30 seconds to grab the chinky nevermind having to go walk home and acquire someone elses car to tow it home (which would be fun without a front towing eye as well)...
Thankfully when the error has occurred each of the 3 times above it's been fairly simple to clear:-
1 - Turn ignition on and try to start - error code appears
2 - Turn ignition off and pull out the key
3 - Lock doors and open again using keyfob
4 - Insert key and move to power on position and make sure no alarm is still active
5 - Turn to start position and hey presto away she goes without issue
If the alarm is still active (only happened once to me (2nd time) I just locked and unlocked again and it went no problem...
Seems to be more of a sensor problem somewhere that doesn't like sitting for a length of time - I had thought about the possibility of condensation maybe causing the sensor to trigger the fault alarm while it's left sitting as each time it's happened it's been during a wet or at least damp time of the year, and from talking with other owners it seems to be the case also...
Good luck and am interested to hear what diagnosis the powers that be come back with to you
