On my way back from the pub tonight did my usual 'check on the car'. Went to cross the road just as a marked police car was coming up the road. They slowed to let me cross and then stayed looking towards the car. I cross over, but stay by my front door to see if there was anything going on (YES, very nosey i know...)

They then do a U turn and as they drive past me just say 'dont worry, just admiring the cars'... now, this seems a bit odd to me - they are based round the corner so probably know most the cars round here

So were they checking on houses, but using cars as an excuse to stop me being nosey, or are they checking on cars i.e. do they think certain cars may be targets? Probably the mojitos making me paranoid....

Just seemed odd you know?

So they slowed to let you cross? Good roadcraft.

And they checked out the local cars? So those BiBs like nice cars? Not so uncommon.

So they were checking out cars & houses to make sure there was no shattered glass around, no lowlife looking dodgy - and you're complaining?? Good on 'em I say.

My office is on a small industrial estate and I tend to work late. One evening I was scared shitless by someone coming into the workshop (the door hadn't latched) - it was BiB - making sure that a) I was ok and b) I was kosher to be there. Very friendly but very professionaly asked the right questions.

Was I angry? Was I hell, I was chuffed that they took a turn around the estate when they had a chance & stopped to check on something that could have been a scrote robbing me blind.

So just what was so strange about this BiBs behaviour then? Sounds prettry normal & positively to be encouraged to me.

Maybe thought you might be pis*ed and were going to drive? Or maybe you just look dodgy?! I wouldn't call it 'odd' behaviour, I can often be found rolling down streets on our ground with no lights on, windows down, having a look and a listen. This is the best job in the world for someone like me, i.e., a nosey and suspicious git!!

This is one of the reasons I know I've found my niche - being ultra-nosey, suspicious and just a little cynical is now just 'professional curiosity'

The only way I can see that behaviour being 'Odd' is that it doesn't seem to happen often enough.

Not a dig at the BiB - they're only following orders and doing the paperwork.

What is interesting though is what once would have been taken for granted - a bobby on the beat having a scout around his patch - is now cause for comment on a forum.

Sounds like bl**dy good plod to me, wish there were more of them.

Sounds a bit like you were looking shifty as well, and they thought they would keep an eye, just in case.

What's odd? Sounds like they were doing the kind of thing we wish they'd do more of.

When we moved onto our estate we were the first there, there'd been some trouble also with kids on the building site and with boy racers on the roads. The first weekend as I returned quite late with a chinese takeaway a police car followed me round the back and watched as I pulled into our drive. Once they saw the carrier bag in my hand and the other cars parked there they left. But it was good that they did check.

Well, they never looked at me over the road, just seemed to be looking down the gap in one of the houses

Was just more interested in views of whether they were indeed 'admiring the cars' or actually on patrol...

Bit of both I would say.

You were acting out of the ordinary (in their opinion at distance etc..) and so as they approached and saw it was a nice car they double check to make sure all is well.
