DO NOT USE THE AUTO GLYM WHEEL CLEANER ON YOUR ALLOYS.

Its too abrasive and will leave them looking scratched and white, its a real up!!!

I've used Auto Glym many times before with no issues at all. Only issue I've heard of is when it's been sprayed onto a warm wheel.......but that's the same for most wheel cleaners.

Autoglymn wheel cleaner has worked miles better than anything else I've ever used on all my alloys.

Perhaps its just your wheels - what type and finish are they?

Instructions say to only leave it in contact for 1 minute.

One thing to be careful of with a sponge is that you can trap the road dust/grit as well as the brake dust and that will act as an abrasive. A brush is somewhat less likely to do this and so is the better choice.

And never use a nylon scrubbing pad; they're far too hard.

Wheels are usually painted; don't physically go at the paint with anything or any method that you wouldn't use on your paintwork.

You may be able to polish the scratches away with a mild polish and then wax to restore the gloss.

I've found the best method is to first wash the alloy's throughly with the usual Autoglym shampoo, then try and remove tar etc. with the Autoglym polish. If that doesn't work, use Autoglym tar remover on any isolated stains (wash off very quickly though!) then apply a load of polish to the wheel (a lot easier to clean the next week or month ).

I use this stuff all the time, for years. No problems, except when you inhale the vapour!

Autoglym wheel cleaner is not abrasive in any way what so ever. It is a wheel acid that specifically eats carbon and chalk, I suspect its based on HCl but may be wrong.

Either way it will not have scratched your alloys, but its possible if your laquer has cracked it has gone under the laquer, but the same would happen with time with water anyway.

Have you had your wheels reconditioned? I found that after that the lacquer was rubbish.
