Hi All,

I have a 97 Chim 4.0 which brings a to my face every time i drive her. However, i left the interior light on during the week and i have had a flat battery. The battery is sorted however none of my alarm fobs work. Meaning i cannot lock or unlock the car!!!! I have read in my Steve Heath manual that i need to reset the alarm. Any help on this would be great.

Thanks

Easy, unbolt negative terminal on battery, make sure nothing is still connected to this battery post.

Wait 5 mins then resecure, your alarm will be reset, hopefully.

This has happened to me several times when Ive left the chim for a few weeks - just leaving the alarm set is enough to kill the battery.

Just leave the earth off for about 5 seconds - thats all it takes in my case. Seems the loss of 12V makes the alarm reset and start working again.

Thanks,

I'm going to give this a try. Did you have to re sync the fobs after ?

No the fobs are coded and will not need resetting at all when you re energise.
Simple!

Forgot to add - you *may* need to use the plipper quickly (within a few secs) of reconnecting the battery after the 5 seconds or so - I recall reading somewhere that when 12V is restored to the meta you need to hit the unlock plipper within a few seconds to enable it. I could be wrong of course but I always do this when I reconnect the battery just to be sure and its always worked so far....

We have progress. Left the "-" off for five min, then reconnected. Alarm sounds straight away, however the fobs still don't want to play ball. The alarm, resets after sounding for 30 - 60 sec. Have i missed a point or do i need to resorte to a new alarm??

I take it that the vehicle battery is charged and the batteries are ok in each fob.

When you reconnect the vehicle battery are you then inserting the meta immobiliser's platic key into the rectangular immobilser slot by the steering wheel, so that the red light extinguishes, prior to you turning the ignition key?

Or failing this, the centre button on the immobiliser does the same thing and if the ignition is on at this time this will energise the fuel pump which you will hear.

I had all this when I first had my Chim, and some 'chancer' tried to convince me I needed to pay him 600 quid for a new immobiliser, there was nothing wrong with it and you will get your car going for free soon, I hope!

The Battery is charged and the fobs both have new batteries. I am taking them to a local meta dealer to check that they are transmitting.

I have not tried inserting the meta stick straight after the battery is reconnected. The immobiliser has not been a problem, i can take this of using the stick and the fuel pump kicks in a off we go. The problem seems to be the alarm and the fact that the fobs don't want to take the alarm off. Even if i have the key in the ignition, the fob doesn't take the immobilier off as it use too.

Might be a stupid question, please bear with me - but if your car's locked, and the battery goes flat, and the roofs up/on - how exactly do you get in to recharge the battery??

Ah, now there's a leading question!

Before you really need to find out, ring your TVR garage.

Ah...being a newbie all over again, it's so much fun.

So, what you're saying is either;

1) I will have to wait and find out the hard way
or
2) There isn't a way without physically breaking into the car

??

"Easy, unbolt negative terminal on battery, make sure nothing is still connected to this battery post.

I got this from a very reliable source

Now tell me this big obvious thing I'm missing.

I just found out how to open the car without the battery connected etc.

Sorry, still don't know how to fix your alarm, but I can reccomend a guy in Southend if that's any good?
