Moral dilema (slightly off thread)

you REALLY need to ask for help with that answer?! Or were you just looking for advice on how to let her down gently? I think my response would have been to leak a little wee laughing so hard at the suggestion.I dont see why she couldnt have a go at bruntingthorpe, its a pretty big place to race around and would be better enviroment to learn about driving fast.
Its such a wide open space not much can go wrong with you there to tell her to slow down etc, but i dont think that will be too much of a problem as i know it would scare the crap out of me driving a Ultima for the first time so really you would find that she would be taking it easy i would imagine.
I know i would love to have a go at driving a ultima, as long as she repsects the speed and power which im sure shes aware of. I know i would have loved to have someone take me to a big open space to play with after i passed my test as it lets you experience things in a much safer enviroment where you can learn things by making mistakes like spinning out etc, without it costing your life.
So let her drive too, i know if i had a daughter i would be teaching her all the things i could.

In all reality its unlikely that she will go 'that' fast, for most newly passed drivers the acceleration will really spook them. Also she will probably be scared of damaging Dad's P&J
At the end of the day its only a car and it can only make your relationship with your daughter stronger. Who knows in a couple of years time you may be doing double entries at hill-climbs/sprints with her

The issue is not driving the car when under your stewardship at Bruntingthorpe, it's when you're not there which will be the next question. "Dad you let me drive at Bruntingthorpe can I now borrow the car to go to... You know I'll be sensible, I promise!!!"
This will be the show off time and may result in a accident. An ultima is like a lion. Treat it with respect and you will have a harmonious relationship. Abuse it or push ot to hard and it wll bite back and with some ferocity. I Know what I was like at 18 with Father's car. Have had friends who have borrowed the powerful sports car from the parents and one or two have wrapped it round a lamp post or had a collision with another moving object. Fortunately no-one was seriously hurt. It is the temptation, it is really hard to ignore and easy to show off. And teenagers do.

thanks guys, i had already given my answer before i put the post on but was interesed to see the thoughts of others. my answer basically was , get some experience in your own car for a couple of years and then we will see about letting her have a go. shes pretty sensible and did understand about the step up up from 65bhpish to 500ish. as for the taking boyfriends out, as was pointed out, i think its a non starter with insurance.
DAN- at the moment the engine is just sat in the garage 'lookin purty'. i WILL start work on the body this week, starting to get a bit more time now, well at least till sunday and then its back out to lanzarote. yes, tiresome i know, but i'm only going to keep carol company.
GUY - when did Bruntingthorpe become Ultima intolerant, i thought tuxman, gtrgaz and pb3 (apologies phil if it wasnt you) did some charity stuff up there last summer.

Just say no.If anything and I mean anything were to go wrong,she would never forgive herself even if you did.I know of a local fella who lent his Venturi (only right hand drive example in existance)to his brother to go to LeMans in this year.He crashed it and now it's gone forever.I am not suggesting anything this extreme may happen in your case, but hey, shit does happen right?.
