DIY air con regassing

Noticed that some car accessory shops are selling regassing kits for air con, just wondering if these are any good? need to get the air con working on the Griff as without it the heater always seem to blow hot and in the rain it's a nightmare.

Hi Paul,
I have never tried the DIY kits, but I think (from memory) your car has the early early fittings on the AC system, and they prob wont fit with the late style kits.
But I could be wrong.

Never used one of these kits as my mobile specialist is cheaper!(£60 to re-charge 900gms including a leak detector)However,if you do decide to use one,i have been warned that the kits with a leak fix included contain a reactant with air to fix the leak.This works well until you have to remove a gas carrying part of the system at some point,then you will get solid deposits wherever the air gets to(probably throughout the system),and this can render your system useless apparently.Worth a thought i reckon

I did like the idea of the leak fix as mine was slowly losing gas last time it was pressurised, might have to think twice though if it will mess it up.

yep, works like tyre weld. and we all know what that looks like when they take the tyre off!

not something that i'd do to my air-con (if it was on at the mo).

Being that I was a tyre fitter a long time ago I'm not really fond of tyre weld lol
