Griffith Oil leak.

Hi All,

Some advice please!! My Grif 500 Has what seems to be a serious oil leak which only happens when hot and being driven. If I start the car and leave standing until it gets hot there is no problem. Once driving Oil leaks in a fairly large quantity! It is dripping onto the exhaust in the middle of the car but I don't know where its coming from. When I stop in traffic the cabin will fill with smoke where the oil is dropping onto the exhaust and smoke comes from both sides, whilst driving smoke from the back.
I checked the oil and if anything it has been overfilled but I thought this would burn off through the exhaust.
Once standing again the leak stops and will not re-appear until hot and driven. I think if I stop and leave to stand when hot it will eventually stop dripping but the smoke has so far had me turn it off.

Has anybody seen anything like this before? Any advise is appreciated.

Oil light switch, oil gauge sender?
Best thing to do, if you can is get under the car with the engine running. Maybe find a friendly exhaust bay that'll let you run the car on the ramp for 10 mins, but be careful you don't bottom out, some of them are a bit close underneath.

Could be the gearbox, would it come from here only when running? The gearbox has been out recently to have 5th repaired!!
Otherwise I think a ramp is the plan.

Oil pressure is fine and no lights are on..

Hello ShaunThat was my first thought,then i deleted my post as i didn't want to mislead!I had a similar problem on my old triumph,it only leaked on the run,and it was the gerbox oil seal.
By the way i still haven't forgot that ride around Spa you gave me,thanks!.Hope you and sue are doing well

Both doing well thanks, Looking forward to Brands. Your name is a good disguise!! I am beginning to think it could be the gearbox. I guess if I try and change gear less it may help. Seeing as it was only repaired just before the Spa trip it is still covered I hope!

I assume you got back from Spa OK, did you sort out your mis-fire?

To be honest,Brands is 50/50 at the mo.,i'd love to go but we're running out of weekends with so much already planned.The Griff had a duff fuel pressure regulator in the end-easily sorted now,nearly 1 bar of pressure too much was going in,no wonder it made some followers eyes sting!
