Can't seem to work out where the reversing light switch is on the side of the gearbox. I have taken the exhaust off for its mods so I can see up their properly. I can see the handbreak wires and have looked up the side of the gearbox and bellhousing casting but cant make it out. Is the switch mounted at the top of the gearbox or on the side? Anybody know please! How can I test it on the car when I do find it? Its a 94 Chimaera so its got the rover box.
Thanks for any help!
Cheers

It's where the gear lever goes into the top of the gearbox right at the top of the tunnel.

Ah that makes sense! Thanks steve
Is it a better bet to attck it from the top then?
How do I get the centre console off in that case and are their inspection hatches so that I can get at it?

Alex, I've had mine off and it was relatively easy. But there does appear to be some differencies so may not be. Lift out the tray at the back of the console and remove two large long self tappers. At the front, either side of the tunnel remove the small s/t screws near the end of the console ears. Now, the official way is to disconnect the handbrake so it can be tilted vertically, but on mine I could just prise the gaiter over the button. Lift up the console and disconnect window switch wires. Remove console. I haven't looked, but I expect the reverse switch will now be visible.

Good luck.
