Salon Privé London

New jolly posh event sees the cream of the world's exotica on show

There's a new type of supercar show on the calendar. Salon Privé opened at the Hurlingham Club in Putney today.

The exclusive event played host to several hundred people and several million pounds worth of exotica from Aston to Zonda via Bugatti and Maybach.

The event runs over several days and includes gala evening dinners and lots of other Pimms and Champagne fuelled jollity.

Without crowds to contend with, the organisers can lay on a very open and relaxed event, attended by those with seriously deep pockets.

FYI there's no Enzo, but there is:
Zonda F
MC12
Gallardo Spyder and SE
Murci LP640
McLaren F1 (in white)
SLR x 2
Mayback 53S
CLK 63 AMG and E63
CCX
Spyker
Alfa Brera and Spyder
Bentley Azure
Veyron
Continetal GTC
Rolls 101EX (Coupe)

There is a great selection of cars, and the weather looks great this week.

It's at the Hurlingham club in Fulham, which also includes a cricket pitch - where they parked 3 DB9s and an SLR which customers turned up in!

There is also the Brera spyder, which looks fantastic - but agreed, not as good as the 8C.

As much as I love TVR's, they're not exactly in the same league as some of this stuff in terms of price and exclusivity! While Marcos are in the same league, I guess they sell far fewer and are probably therefore perceived as more exclusive.

So what league then are Lotus and Corvettes in? Marcos limited production, ok, hmmm TVR mass production errr?? Oooops sorry maybe the criteria is mass production, a ford with brit badge, nope the headline defiantly said ‘exotica’ which to my mine are motors that go like stink and look stunning, not exactly in the same league my …. Not that I feel strongly on the subject you understand.

LOL, you are vexed!

Didn't spot the Lotus and Corvette, but you're right - TVR should be represented. Maybe buy in at this event is a case of top dollar or a car launch?

The Marcos definitely go from pootle to f*** me to pootle in less time than it takes to spill a pint. I take it that qualifies?

Well last night was a fantastic event - due to limiting numbers, it felt like a small, private party - where you could wander around, chatting to the owners, sitting in the cars, with no barriers, no security (well probably was but v discreet). About 10:30, the factory demo chap from Koenigsegg fired up the CCX - I have a vid of this which I will post later. Fantastic car and noise. Carbon fibre wheels indeed! And it has it's little spoiler now courtesy of the Stig's comments...

One of the highlights was the Maybach Prototype - huge black 700hp batmobile worth $8M !!!

We ended up sitting on the Mosler table next to the Gumball chaps (Maximillion Cooper and his gang). One of his entourage, Dave, who has previously done the Gumball in a 1963 VW camper with porsche engine, has placed an order for a CCX to do it next year - he wants to go from being the slowest to the faster gumballer - should be fun for him!

Quite a humbling evening as there certainly was a lot of wealth there (quote one chap I was talking to - "oh, I have three friends who have Veyrons already...". Mostly people were genuine car enthusiasts though - albeit with stables where the gallardo was the shopping car...

Don't get me started on Peter Stevens' after dinner talk though....never put a softly spoken technical designer with powerpoint infront of slightly inebriated car buffs. It is possible our table was clinically dead at the end of it...

Was there yesterday. Nice, relaxed, atmosphere - but could definitely have done with a few more cars/exhibitors - perhaps a few concours Classics in with the new product?
