She let me down today. Car has gone off on the back of a lorry to a local garage. :-(

Engine just idles, throttle does nothing. I got under the bonet and tried playing with the 'throttle springy bit' - but that does nothing either.

Any ideas what is wrong? Cheers.

If you've phisically moved the throttle and nothing happens it could well be the throttle pot.Not too expensive

Throttle pot..!? its a butterfly mechanism at the plenum end. More likely the butterfly has become detached from the rest of the mechanism therefore moving the outside is making no difference inside.

You have a pot on the end of the spindle,on the one side, opposite the likage. This tells the ecu the throttle positionI agree though, the butterfly disconnected would give these symptoms

Got her back from the garage - Here's their comments

-"CHECKED FOR NO THROTTLE:- FOUND BOLT LOOSE ON LINKAGE, ADJUST LINKAGE AND TIGHTEN BOLT, ROAD TEST OK"

So, all is well again.

Thanks for the help chaps - looks like you were right.

To be honest, it was a garage that I have never used before - the one where the break down truck came from. Charged an hours labour, and even came and picked me up when the car was ready. I am a happy man!

Cheers all.

Dav,

Aren't you a member of AA or similar?

The very nice man would probably have fixed that at the roadside.

In any case, glad to hear you're all sorted and a happy bunny again.

AA? Yes - fully ******** membership. I called them when I couldn't fix it myself. Conversation roughly went something like -

"Hello, I've broken down......."

"OK sir - we'll be with you in two hours"

"TWO HOURS! I'm partially blocking a main Rd, and it's 4:30PM! Not good enough!"

"OK sir we will make you a priority"

20 mins later, AA call me back

"Sorry, but we don't have an free AA agents at the moment - we will send a local garage out"

Over an hour later, a break down lorry from a local garage (20 miles away) turned up and took me home. He didn't even look under the bonet.

Maybe a letter to the AA is needed.

Cheers.
