993 corrosion - OPC comes good
Discussion
I noticed a few weeks back some slight bubbling on the panel in front of the windscreen around the wiper mounts on my 96' 993. I took the car to Reading OPC looking to claim this on the 10 year body work warranty. I am pleased to say (although it took 4 or 5 weeks for them to come back to me) they have agreed to see to the problem under warranty.
You could argue that you should expect this since the car is <10 years old. But reading on the forum about the sometimes patchy service OPC's offer and that it is now being serviced by an independent I was unsure whether they'd accept it. So I am delighted they have.
Worthwhile checking whether corrison's appeared (it's a known problem) if you've got a 96 or younger 993 and getting into your OPC if you want it seen to. Although Reading OPC did say that if a car had a lot of owners, had shown evidence of poor care/servicing or showed up on their system as having prior bodywork done they'd be less likely to deal with it...

Hello PTE, Out of interest, does your service book have any specialists, or is it full OPC?
To Londoner... I just went to Reading OPC pointed out the places where the bubbling was starting to appear. They took a few photos, checked the service book and said they'd have to send it to Porsche for approval. Took ages and a bit of chasing but they called me this week to say it'd been approved and that I'd be hearing from the bodyshop shortly.
Apparently the areas around the front and rear w/screen are prone. According to the OPC the glass of the w/s (especially if it's been replaced) can rub against the body over time wearing away the paint and allowing water ingress which leads to the rust bubbles...

its not rust: its just a physical manifestation of how its growing in value.
They're great those 993's aren't they? Porsche thought of everything!
Funny how, according to the owners, they went through a devolutionary stage when bringing out the newer, improved model.
Ah well.
