Hi there,

As many of you know I have attended many of the recent Ferrari and Lamborghini events and have taken many pictures some of which have been posted on threads in this forum.

I have decided to produce a website of my own so that all of my pictures can be seen in one place. It is only a simple design as I am by no means a web design expert, but I think it gets across what I am trying to do.

So far I have uploaded most of the Ferrari pages and a page for Diablos and a page for Pagani Zonda's, please can you have a look using the link below and let me know your thoughts.

All comments and criticism is/are more than welcome.

www.dunlopix.com

regards

Tim Dunlop

I'm no expert, but i've read that having a 'click to enter' page is just an annoyance. Can anyone back me up?

edit: you've missed the title on your main page; and in firefox 1024*768 (just a niggly thing) I can scroll up/down 5mm. If you compressed the page content slightly it would fit so one did not have to scroll.

Have you put the full size images as the thumbnails, because they take a little while to display fully?

goes off to revise own website to above criteria...

one thing i have noticed:

when you click on a car to get the thumbnails for it, they load up fairly slowly. this is because of the fact that it is infact loading the full size images but just limiting their screen size. this does have the benefit of quick loading full images, but it would mean that anyone viewing on a slower connection would find it very annoying as pages can be in excess of 3Mg each.

dont know whether i would change it or not, as the benefit of quickly loading full pics is nice, but it is something to think about.

one other thing:
once you have chosen to go to "modern supercars etc" there is no way of going back to the main choice page other than using the back button. it is probably worthwhile putting a link back to that page (it could even be the "dunlopix" if you dont want it to spoil the current look of the page.

other than that, it is a nice simple site (that scores highly in my books)

I see you've managed to capture a shot of Y60VT with its lady owner ! I don't get on with the blue text on black background here and there do seem to be a lot of similar photos - fewer images and larger thumbnails might be better and faster. Otherwise it looks better than a lot I've seen.

I agree about the 'click to enter' page. And all the pages are off-centre (blank space on the right) on my monitor (1280x960). And yes, thumbnails load very slowly. I can imagine some people wouldn't wait for them to load and just move on. I've also noticed that a lot of the images are similar, so I would just select the best ones.

But the layout of car list page is clear and images are super.

Aside from has already been said, my 2 cents:

I like that the full-size photos pop up in a new window, but you would probably want to put a black border around those, as the white doesn't really frame them well. Also, you might want to adda feature that close the new window if you click anywhere on the photo. That way, to navigate the full-size photos, one doesn't need to keep moving the mouse to the top right corner to close the window.

Also, while the layout is very good for the site, I don't entirely like the font and size, as well as the black background. While black is a very good background for photos, the only websites where it is suitable as a background is on emo teenagers' MySpace profiles and BSDM sites. I'd change it to something lighter.

Looks neat and tidy, nice and simple. I might prefer slightly fewer but larger thumbnails, maybe a 4 x 3 grid rather than 6 x 3. The images will probably look cleaner that way too.

Like everyone else I think the thumbnail loading needs to be much quicker.

Oh, and you've forgotten a TVR section

Hi,
I agree that the thumbnails take an age to load...and on the one page I looked at, Lambo Diablo inc. etc., they covered the last line of text.
I think the intro "A message from Tim" is a good idea, but it contained too much trivia and detail that, while important to you, will be of no interest to most viewers. They'll be interested in the cars and not much else.
The only thing I didn't really like was all the different coloured lines of text...it kept pulling my eyes all over the page.
All this is only one persons opinion so please don't be hurt or offended...after all, I have a site but havn't got past the first page.

Martin.

The thumbnails aren't thumbnails, hence the slow loading and the jaggies.

IMHO, I'd like to see this as the homepage:
www.dunlopix.com/page3.html
with a link to your bio.

But, then, I just use Photobox pro galleries

Hi there,

Have found a way for the pictures to appear as thumbnails and then load as a large picture when clicked. Please have a look at this link:-

Is this better ??

Not totally sure about the colour scheme (I liked the black personally) but thumbnails loads quickly and images load quick enough too. Much better.

You need some form of logo

And as said, the thumbnails need sorting.. You can get software that does this for you (actually creates HTML Gallery pages and thumbnails).. you can also create thumbnail images easily in Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro etc..

Whoops you sorted thumbnails, looks like I've not been reading the thread right again

And I think the grey one works better, but I think the red of the title might look better in another colour..?

Much better color scheme. Though, I'd probably make "The Website of Amateur Photographer Tim Dunlop" the same color as "DUNLOPIX" at the top, because it draws too much attention away from the content. I'd also use a brighter red for those, as it blends in with the new (and much better) background color. But aside from the top line, that page looks significantly better.

And while this is personal preference, Arial is a kind of bland font. While you want something that won't take away from the pictures too much, you might want something a little more... unbland. Gill Sans MT makes for an excellent font that both looks good and won't distract from the photos. Granted, the whole font thing is personal preference.

I agree with all of these things, I was wondering about the font. Arial was the first in the list so I thought I would try it.

Have a look at this page, personally I like it alot more than than the first attempt.

I think that last page you posted looks quite good, much prefer the grey background to the black one. I think the colour scheme works as well.
