Following on from using them in France i was wondering what PHers Had, and what ones that you could recommend. prehaps with the motorbike intercom aswell.

And why hasnt anyone put any feedback in the Reviews Section on the two makes there if it dont get used i am sure TED will Delete it

5 year old Motorola S200, 3 Km range works really well in fast moving cars with no break up, (the more industrial type about £170 a throw at the time), 4AA batteries last about 2 days depending on useage. Take some bashing use them on ski trips as well

I've known people who recently brought the £70 a pair
type and they were utter c**p

Using Motorola TA200's, used 4 of them on Easytrack's tour last May and for Skiing/ off-roading etc etc work very well, about £140 a pair from Carphone warehouse

I've bought a pair of 8ch PMR446 radios from Dixons. About £25 for the pair. Telcom Talkeasy 100 or something. Got about a 2 mile range in the mountains of St Anton and at £25 it doesn't matter if they get busted.

Also have a pair of bright yellow Cobra PMR446 radios. About £55 a pair from Tescos. Better battery performance than the Dixons ones. I got 16km (yes sixteen) out of these point to point.

Lastly I have a pair of BellSouth FRS radio for use in the US. These are pretty good featuring 14 channels plus the 38 CTSS 'privacy' channels. Can't use them in the UK though.

It's worth mentioning that no radios range performance will be much better than others because the RA govern the radiated output power of these things quite strictly. The PMR446 standard allows for up to 500mW I believe. The only advantages of an expensive radio are built in recharging circuits / sturdier cases and better audio quality. If you're off to Le Mans or something. I'd get some 25 quidders rather than spend £140 a piece on ICOM's or something (even though I'm a big fan of ICOM stuff)

One warning I best mention is that the first two PMR446 channels should not be used when in France as they are not yet ratified there and those frequencies are already allotted (to the SNCF I believe). See the following link of where you can and can't use PMR446 radios (All the 2-3km range licence free radios sold in the UK will be PMR446)

went out and bought some binatone MR200 from argos today, £50 gets you 3 walkies talkies (perfect for our 3 car convoy to le mans!!!)

all the usual features, 8 channels, 3km range etc... me and my mate have spent all afternoon messing around with them calling each other "rubber duck" and "pig pen"!!!
