Hi, the time has finally come when I can start to realise my dream of buying my first TVR

Now I've been avidly reading anything and everything I can find about TVRs and Chimaeras in particular, buyers guides, posts on here, Steve Heaths 'Bible' etc etc so I have a decent knowledge of what I'm looking for. I have a couple of friends with TVRs but none of them have a Chimaera (Griff, Tuscan and Sagaris) so my problem now is that all of my knowledge is only theoretical, not real world experience. This is when I'm hoping some kindly soul on here could give me some assistance by showing off their nice shiny P&J to me so I can get a real idea of where to look on the chassis for problems, what sounds should they make, common problems to check for etc. I live in Medway in Kent and I've seen several Chimaeras around but obviously have no idea if any of them are owned by PHers.

If anybody can thinks they can help me then it would be most appreciated or if you have any other useful tips for a TVR virgin then please feel free to let me know.

Many Thanks,

Ross

..sounds like you've done all the right things so far ..now just make sure you don't buy the first one you see and you'll be well away

(sorry I'm in Hampshire or I'd happily show you the ins and outs of my chim)

the Chim is essentially a Griff in prettier clothing so it may be worth asking your mate with the Griff, providing he has some good knowledge of the car etc....
I'm going to be at the Thistle hotel, Brands Hatch tomorrow from about 9/9:30pm for the start of the Furball and would be happy to show you round mine if you're anywhere near. May be a little dark though but due to work etc I don't think I can get there any earlier...

Yeah I know I'm terrible for buying things too quickly so I thought it best to try and get shown around one by an impartial owner rather than someone trying to sell a car to me

I've spoken to the Griff owner and got plenty of more tips from him but unfortunately he's upgraded the Griff for a Sagaris so again, no hands on experience. I'm afraid I'm already booked up tomorrow but thanks very much for the offer Zippee.

Join the club. Go to 2-3 meets.. You will see plenty of Chims, and get to talk to plenty of owners...

Could also ping a post up on the Kent section of this website and see if there are any within spitting distance who will let you look them over...

Generally it is all fairly simple stuff, and TBH I would always get a car inspected by a TVR specialist prior to purchase. They can cost £££££s if it is a dog. SO best to get a good one..

Hi Ross

I think I can help - you have more TVR's near you than you might think, & I know the owners are allways happy to help out a prospective owner.

Theres lots going on very close to you, our lot meet at Dunton Green twice a month, & loads of us will be at Brands Hatch on the 24th July for the TVRCC track day, after which its a short drive to our meet on the same evening.

Drop me a line via my profile if I can help

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll be joining up to the TVRCC shortly I think and I'll be contacting a couple of you about your generous offers soon
