Was looking at a 2000 model with just shy of 1900 miles on the clock. The car is like new (as you might expect with such little use), but it has only had the 1 service (major) so far.

I've never owned a TVR with an S6 engine, so I need a little help in deciding if I should take my interest further. I assume that such little use (and attention) over 6 years is a recipe for disaster. Anyone got any strong views on the subject?

Should the worst happen, then how much is a new engine?

Although it has low miles it isn't nescessarily a good thing, The Speed6 engine likes being used and therefore a Tuscan with average miles for age would have had most of the "faults" ironed out. Regardless of mileage the speed6 needs a service every 6k / year whichever comes the sooner.

Are you based in Scotland by any chance?

You've got to ask the question as to why its got so few miles. Has it been smashed up and off the road for a long time?

With regards to the engine, it should be ok because of the low miles. It's not even run in yet. However because of the age of the car you may find a lot of the rubber seals and gaskets are on their way out, the most troublesome of which being the clutch slave cylinder seals, a fairly pricey job.

Watch for misbehaving electrics too. Like others have said, because of its age and low miles there may still be a few niggly faults lurking that haven't been sorted yet.

ask for the engine to be re-built to the latest specification by the factory and have a full service carried out on the car. Otherwise walk away.....

Hi,

The only reason I ask is that I am based in Edinburgh and might be selling mine - have purchased a new house and need some funding :-(
It's a 2001 Y in Crystal Topaz (pearlescent bluey silver).

Feel free to give me a shout on 07867 524 260 if your interested.

Cheers

If its the red one, then it has been for sale for over a year...!

I have been watching if anyone will actually buy it for a while!

If you ask me then you are opening a whole can of beans with regard to anything which *can* perish would have done if it has been layed up for that amount of time.

It was an 'X' plate car that popped-up on ebay a week or so ago (gone now). It was a reddish/orange colour, had 2 owners from new, had covered 1700 miles.

I spoke to the guy selling the car and he seemed genuine enough. He told me that it was A1 inside and out and that it had only had the one service (major).

If the car is indeed mint, would it be worth taking the (engine) risk at £17k? Not a lot of Tuscan's on the go at that price.

please email me at dealmaster@hotmail.com - I'd rather not post all my details on here as it's frowned upon.

Cheers

Munkeeman you missed a good one!!

I was the first owner of that Tusc and have just bought it back. The mileage is genuine... I bumped it at 507 miles and had major problems with getting it back on road due to failure of tvr to supply the required parts. After 4 years and some pretty heavy legals the insurance company gave me all my money back and a bit extra too! It's taken over 5 years but my babys now coming home!!

Bugger!

Was it indeed the one up in Aberdeen?

Just seemed too good to be true!

And the search goes on...

Pal of mine bringing it down on a transporter tomorrow but I am really kicking myself....as soon as I got on the plane to fly back to Birmingham I knew I should of just driven it back! Send me your email and I'll send you a pic from 2000 when it wasn't looking quite so proud!!
