Hi folks,

I need some help trying to figure out the idle problem on my S. I would go to the garage but I would prefer to do it with someone that knows the S so I can look and learn and won't cost me a fortune.
What I would like to do is identify where the idle problem comes from, try and clean the fuel sender before buying a new one... If you live around and are equipped with tools to help me out, let me know...
I know it is a lot to ask but who doesn't dare doesn't learn

If you have 1/2 day to spare, I'd be more than grateful

I've been here with a few cars myself, with similar setup. No TVR's though.

I'll have a look if I can have a ride in it when it runs!

I`m on the isle of wight, and had an s2 for a couple of years, what exactly is the problem?
here are a few things worth checking;
1. check the connectors to the airflow meters, the wires can come loose and connectors may need a good clean.
2 check the cylindrical unit , can`t remember its name, which is bolted to the front of the phlenum chamber, be careful with the gasket when removing, check that the metal rod moves freely, give it a dose of wd40.
3 check the throttle pot, this is underneath the unit in no2. try running with it disconnected, if its shot will have to replace, I think they may be hard to get hold of at the moment.
hope some of these help, there is bound to be someone along who`s very knowledgable on this sort of thing, Greenv8s is the man to track down, good luck.

Good advice, Clive - but I think axe has a 2.8 Essex and not the 2.9 Cologne (different fuel injection system, no throttle pot etc). Not sure whether the 2.8 has an Idle Speed Control Valve or not..

axe - you could do worse than check out these guys www.interford.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=17. A search of the forum should throw up lots of threads which deal with 2.8 idling issues..

Thanks both,

I have had a look and found an interesting post regarding idle problem on a 2.8 MFI but I am not sure this applies to my engine.
The problem is that whenever the idle goes under 1000 rpm, the car seems to struggle and "shakes" then eventually stalls if I don't press the accelerator. They also mention to use a fuel cleaner and I would suspect the tank/hoses are full of cr*p as the previous owners did not seem to care much and set the idle to 1500+ rpm just for her not to stall.
What is the best course of action in that case? remove the tank from the car and clean it? change the pipes (+ filter if I can find where it is)? Change the spark plugs might help?
I have been told you can adjust the mixture by turning a screw somewhere around the air filter. Can this help?
