Hi im rebuilding my s1. im about to but back in the diff. i was just thinking. before i but it back in. does any one know how to check the oil level on the diff. also does any one know what clucth shold i get. i take it shold be a ford capri 2.9. and also the rear brake pads. thanks for your help James.
Diff: to check oil take out the filler plug on the back, then push in a bit of thick wire with a 90 degree bend in (coathanger is ideal) to use as a "dipstick" - the level should be just below the lower edge of the filler hole (there is a dimension but I forget it - the Sierra Haynes manual should tell you). Note stating the obvious - make sure the wire is long enough so that it can't fall inside the diff - you don't want that, no.
Clutch - no idea. If your car is an S1 then I would guess the Capri / Granada 2.8. There is something about some "standard" clutch plates fouling the TVR fywheel, but I haven't crossed that bridge yet so haven't looked for more info. Might just affect the later 2.9 cars.
Rear Brakes - if your car is an S1 then it has drums as standard - Sierra 2.0 or 2.3 brake shoes fit. If it has disks an d pads then the brakes have been upgraded and could be anything. A decent motor factor should be able to match your old ones if you take them in when they are not busy.
