Well, had a great skiing holiday for the last week, marred by one unfortunate incident (which has already graced these pages I understand - thanks to those of you who offered sympathy / advice ).

The story goes :

Mate very kindly offered to drive the Taxi home from Gatwick following my departure last Sunday. Unfortunately a combination of enuthiasm/stupidity/wet road/ inexperience/ rear wheel drive/ amg power said mate lost the car on a roundabout and flung it backwards up the kerb and into a roadsign.

Mate has confessed (rang me as I was boarding the plane - great way to start a holiday that!!!), and is going to cover the damage / cash in lieu of car in an honourable fashion.

Still it's a sticky situation, and as a cautionary tale to anyone out there, don't lend your car to a mate with only 3rd party insurance. It ain't worth it.

Still waiting for damage assessments to come through from a couple of places, but having seen the photos it seems that the damage to read axle/suspension/body panels/floorpan/sils will be enough to write it off.

Feck. looks like I might be driving a fiesta to folembray at this rate.....

Bad news ,, but if the traction control was on your mate must have been really Hooning about to lose it in such a big way , and if it was switched off "Why" when it was a strange motor to him

My brother's C36AMG doesn't have a traction control button, if that's a hint to your query?

Tony, very sorry to hear about your car.

yeah, I felt sick when I read your mates' post, bad luck mate. Hope your mate can afford a new one.

PS. Might be worth going back to a certain dealer where I believe you have some credit owed & asking him to find you a new one & putting money towards that ?

Cheers Craig. We'll see what happens, depends on how quickly the cash / repair happens as to what I do.

Still love the car, but possibly I will now succumb to something new. It's pretty unlikely that anyone could find another c36 in such good condition as the one I had (2 owners since new, 9 years in an air con garage, FSH, 68k miles and mint...)

Well that Saxo was easily as fast as The Taxi last year, so a Fiesta should be alright.

Seriously though, hard luck mate, hope you get a new car sorted soon, and don't let it affect your friendship.
