It seems to me that there are regular posts on here asking for advice on doing certain jobs to certain types of car and a good number of members who admit to not being technical enough to do them - see CD Autochanger post for an example.

So, who else would be up for an area within the site where we can post up our location, skills and willingness to help out other PHers with odd jobs like this? I'd be happy to help out with various Mini related tasks, as well as basic electrical stuff.

Any other takers?

Ted - if there's enough interest, what chance a section like this?

Interesting idea. I'd be interested to see what people have to offer and/or think of the idea.

Hmmmm... not sure about welding. That's the deal where you make stuff hot and burn it all together, isn't it?

Excellent idea .... this morning, one of my rear electric windows broke and will only go halfway up and it's going to pour later.
Not necessarily for this job but I can offer my expertise to anyone with digital imaging jobs. Restoration of old photos, removing people, replacing people (ex-wives, girlfriends etc!). Making interesting and dramatic 'pictures' of your cars .... whatever, anything and everything is possible.

A Yellow Pages style approach: members names and locations listed under a number of (searchable) categories.

How about an extension to the usual profile, requiring location and skills to be entered. Then, a search similar to the members search for a particular skill and a radius you are prepared to travel.

Putting the skills into pre-defined categories seems the way to go to assist in search results (i.e. so you group "panel beating" and "bodywork" together to maximise hits).

Also, a "help wanted" area would be useful in case there are things people need that aren't in the normal list but that someone might do after all.

Might be interesting if it was kharmic (sorry about the pun). Seriously, we all help one another and the world becomes a better place...

I think I'd do the advice bit, but in the same way that I don't work for money for friends and family, I don't think I'd want to perform the full service (ooerr) for mates on Pistonheads for cash - it might get ugly!

So, yes to the help and advice bit, but if anyone wants a major ad campaign sorted, then probably not (having said that, advice is what we get paid for mostly anyway!)
