Just had an email from Nikon announcing the D2XS.

Reading the specs, it states that it's capable of:

The new features include improved autofocus, continuous shooting up to 60fps, better battery performance (offering a remarkable 3800 shots between charges)

Is that right? 60fps? Really? How big a CF card would you need for that?

Yours incredulously,

Chris

Somehow I have a feeling that it's not correct.

Phew!!

That's of the order of a gig a second.

How quick can you reload Chris? It suggests the scene from the end of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - you'll go out shooting like mad, but it just won't be a happy ending!!!!

I'd hazard a guess that it means it can sustain a full speed burst for up to 60 frames rather than do 60fps.

Sounds much more likely to me

Or maybe Nikon is introducing a video clip mode into DSLR cameras?

My D2X does 5 (or 8 in crop mode) so 6 would seem a fair upgrade for an 'S'

Perhaps I need a new camera...mine only does 8.5 fps, the competition is catching up

Yep my money is on this as well. My D2H can fire off at 8fps for a maximum of 40frames (which is when it hits its buffer limit). 60 frame buffer is impressive (especially considering the file sizes of the D2XS will way exceed my D2H) - seems we still don't know how many frames a second it can fire off at though. I suspect it will be in the same region as 8-9fps as the limits of this are determined by the mechanicals and not the electronics.
