Wnakers stole my tax disc
Discussion
Someone's nicked my tax disc! Was cleaning the bike and just couldn't workout what that sharp bit of metal was down by the front forks.....then realised it's where the tax should be......B'stards. Thing is, at work I park it underground in a private car park, that's so heavy on security, I'm basically strip searched everytime I go in, and at night it's locked in the shed....can't think where it went.
Anyways, now I've got broadband at home, just thought I'd let you know!!
Cheers.

And aside from the arseache of replacing it, and the holder, right now, you are liable for the absolute offence of failure to display.
When I got the CBR, I asked a neighbour of mine whether she had seen many faiure to display prosecutions, and while not common, there were enough to put me off doing the colour photocopy thing.
Sorry to hear it though.

Sharp bit of metal = holder broken off, is it possible it broke on its own and just fell off? I imagine there would be plenty of vibration, and if something hit resonance you might well get into fatigue failure and have bits come loose or fall off on their own.
Well, the bike's only 5 months old, so I'd hope not!

I've had this happen once - now I keep the tax disc in my wallet.
Yes, I have been pulled over at a road side check on my way into work (checking for valid tax discs) and gotten away with it as I said that I'd had one stolen before - just showed the tax disc and they were happy enough. Did question why they were only pulling bikes over and not cars - made them pull a few of them just so that it didn't appear to be purely targetted at bikes.........

I had my first tax disc stolen a couple of years ago. Since then I've had two colour photocopies nicked as well!
You can get disc holders that need a screwdriver to get the tax disc out, but I've always replaced with the cheapest holder from the bike shop and another colour copy.
As I have a valid tax disc at home, there's no way I should be pulled over because of an ANPR system.

the FEDS would know your bike/car is taxed anyway(pnc/apnr) so it's not a real issue
Yes, it's all on the that nice new-fangled database thingy at DVLA. Whack a copy in, nobody will know. A photograph of it will look real enough, and in front of an officer of the law you can quite clearly pull out the original from your wallet / bag, and explain the reasoning.

So explain to me why we still have the secondary offence of "failure to display" then, and why the JP still sees cases prosecuted. The photocopy carries the additiona risk of someone like Vonhosen adding 2 + 2 and coming up with an intent to defraud type charge. Add to this the ability of every Tom Dick and Harry with a notepad to ticket you for lack of tax while the bike is parked up, and your bag/wallet is with you, and unable to expain properly.
All in all, the whole situation needs proper clarification. It'd probably be better if we replaced the tax disc with some sort of really sticky sticker that was a one time deal, but that might encourage biking

Oh yeh, the great new system
You mean the system that has sent out a tax reminder to me with my old number plate on 2 weeks after getting my plates changed and all the stuff back from the DVLA? And the same system that won't let me tax my bike online as it doesn't think I have insurance? Oh yeh, thats an amazing system...

Chilli - happened to me too. I replaced the holder with a sticker that sits on your tank if someone attempts to remove it , it disintegrates. Cost £2.50 - can't remember the name of the company, but never had a problem since.
Sounds like a plan.....It'll help cover the scratches as well!!
Cheers.
