problem

after using kazza-lite successfully for over a year, i un-installed it to try-out other similar p2p progs, but...

after i install them an load them up, they just hang there 'searching' endlessly after i ask them to find some mp3 files, while others just say 'connecting' forever, an dont connect!
so i re-installed kazaa an now it gives me the same prob as the others!
the others being - morpheus, winmx, imesh, napster, limewire

so there must be networking problem here - so how do i fix it?

Actually, probably not enough said. Sorry. You will need to open ports on both your router and firewall to allow these applications to work. It would also help if you mentioned what router you had, operating system, etc, etc, but if you we're able to get it working in the first place, you should be administer the router and friewall enough to get it working now!

As you've been running K lite I think your firewall setting should be fine -perhaps related though - I use limewire for various /nefarious purposes - search results aren't the best but simplest user interface so I love it - every time I sweep for spyware i delete all gremlins found - to find limewire no longer works - solution reinstall, but, if you're not used to limewire and dependent upon how you've got it set up... before entering a search file & connect - if you enter a search string before doing this it'll never connect and the bars graph at bottom left will remain firmly red...

Limewire will also allow you to avoid sharing huge volumes of copyrighted material - you only have to share 1 file to avoid being a freeloader - hint one of your own i.e a word doc and nothing else - will also flag up whether or not it can find a license for the particular download - very handy for getting lots of good stuff whilst at the same time avioding ant whiff of doing anything untoward to attract the attention of the BPI!

Look for new version of k-lite? Perhaps network settings have changed in that time and your incompatible? Just a wild stab in the dark.

I can't get soulseek to work on my pc, opened up all the ports that it needs on the firewall as per the instructions, but no dice.

Sharezaa/winmx works fine.

No help to you, but maybe somebody knows why soulseek doesn't work for me

11/07/06. Windows 98 and Windows ME both EOL'd, Microsoft no longer offer paid or free support/security updates for these operating systems.
I suspect that Windows 2000 will be EOL'd once Vista has hit the market as it's long overdue for SP5 and is roughly the same vintage as ME.

funny, coz i heard that when they announced that, a user backlash made them extend support upto this years end.

but back on track !

good news - for after installing 'Shareaza' i found this p2p prog actually worked !!
only prob with it tho, is that you cant set to filter out the silly zip files its search lists as audio files !! [duhh]
