Probably needs recharging - i.e. more coolant putting. I think Mr Tony had this done at an indy when he had his AC (before the flat cap years).

A simple test to check whether the a/c is operating; Start the engine and let it warm up and leave it ticking over. When you have the heater settings to blow cold air (i.e. the fan on, temperature dial on cold and a direction of face, say) then press the econ button and you should hear a clunk from the engine bay(it is easier to hear the noise with the bonnet closed because the compressor is very low in the engine bay). This is actually turning the ac off and the clunk is the compressor clutch deactivating. You can do this test a couple of times if you are not sure. If nothing happens then you are possibly right there is no or low gas in the system. This test is not conclusive but should give an indication whether the compressor is working or not. If there is a clunk, then you may have a block system, no circulation and thus also results in no cold air.

Hope this helps
