I have to put out a big thankyou to all that helped me on the weekend. As some will know, a tow truck was my method of arrival after getting nearly there. 20 odd miles left to be exactish. The amp as pointed out by s.hogan3, and one was kindly given to me by Colin(?)........and....now I am really embarrassed as I was trying to check your name on your shirt but missed it. I really can't say thankyou enough.
I got home under my own steam but its missing. Seems to like being given what for but general cruising and 30mph etc its definatly missing on at least one cylinder....?? I think. The symptoms the previous two days have gone. I did stop on the way home to clean the plugs, which were all sooted up after the missing and stalling and general throwing toys out of the pram. Wonder if the plugs have had it? I have spares etc here so thats my job tomorrow.

Jeff, good to hear you got back OK. Sorry I couldn't suggest/help more but that's the down side of having a 200.....I know very little about V8's. The symptoms do seem a bit wiered, going from a near non runner to just a slight miss. Are you sure it's not got something to do with the petrol as the problems did seem to start after you filled up.

Did have me thinking but the same stuff got me part way home. Deffo improvement with the thing on the side of the dizzy replaced. Can they be tested?

Funnily enough David W from Lincs was telling me earlier in the week that he'd just bought an ignition amp tester via Ebay...
You can check the various voltage/ resistance with it in situ and depending on what you get tells you if the amp is knackered,
Mine had problems earlier this year, but just would not start as amp had failed totally, but also rotor arm was earthing out
Must admit it seems strange, as the amps normally fail due to overheating, but I imagine that could be why it starts and then quickly gets too hot and fails, which would then stop sending the signal back to the ecu and cut the engine ?
I'll dig it out if I can find my tests and email ya

It could be the pickup coil in the distributor instead of the ignition amp itself. Mine certainly went intermittently stuttery very quickly and then failed without warning one day after several months of being unable to rev past 5300...Right, coil, lucas dlb198 for a spare for some reason. On a hotwire so if anyone thinks there is anything wrong with this in the long term... please tell. Plugs are all sooted up after I cleaned them yesterday so would I be right to assume there aint enough spark? Not had all the plugs out yet but bet they are all sooty like yesterday.
