...After a bt of abu..., er spirited driving today, got the MIL light on solid and fault code 88 on the reader. Carbon can/purge valve. '97 car, 54k and doubt it's been touched?

Usually ignore 88.

Even if the purge valve is blocked it's unlikely to have an effect on the engine running.

You may get a hiss on releasing the petrol cap though.

Had 88 all the time on my Chim and it ran beautifully.

Check for other codes under the 88 if the MIL is on.

Good point... have reset now (why does that always bu99er up the off-idle running?) so will have to see if it reappears. Oh for a nice 16 bit ECU...
