speed six advice needed

looking at a 2000/2001 speed six cerb
few things: is it advisable to buy a six that hasn't had a rebuild?
second, does the speed six have overheating issues? (just coming from Griff V8 and dont want to have to constantly worry about hot weather and traffic)
third, can you get a warranty on a cerb that is this old?

Mines a 3.6 2002 varient, can't see them being too dissimilar, regarding overheating (or lack of), see this thread;

wow, some of tagarama stories are really depressing...
although your experience was good, it's the nagging feeling that something will go sooner rather than later that frustrates the most.
being a griff owner you always look with envy at the beautiful cerb lines and the futuristic interiors of the tam and t350 but, at the end of the day, the griff is really effing reliable. the rover v8 can take a real battering and yes, it overheats occasionally but the general rule is try and stay out of traffic if you can.
typical TVR, no easy answer!

I have got a Sp6 Cerbera 2001 and the engine has gone 3 times now, the fisrt two re-builds were done early on (before 18k) and when done it said REWORKED which was stamped on the head above the exhaust to the front of the engine, the 3rd time they scraped that head off and put a 2003 spec head on it, this transformed the car and it has been no trouble since, it has now done nearly 41k and feels great.
The Sp6 doesn't seem to have any heating problems, my Chimp used to get to the point where the fans would come on, but the temp stopped up high, on my S6 the fans come on and the temp comes down to near normal and standing in traffic has never been a problem.
Running cost seem to be around double what the Chimp cost.
Any more questions, feel free to mail me.

Only one answer to this question...
Get an 8 cylinder version - the engine was made for the car - the car made for the engine.
Just get one that is a year or two older (1998-199) for the same price.

i have a local tvr specialist who actually worked on the AJP8 for TVR.
i just fancied the speed six for some reason. thought the noise might be more refined, the ride a little better and the MPG a little better? plus i think my insurance would be a little less. though i'd probably end up paying for it when it comes to rebuild time.
also really looking for a newer car. noticed that the one i'm looking at (a 2001) had the newer seats in with more side support (are they the ones taken from the tuscan?)

thanks kevin, exactly as i thought. i'd love a well sorted 2000 era cerb with a 2003+ engine rebuild and preferably a new clutch. a lot to ask i know! thought as much per the overheating issue. had figured that the newer engine, being a six-pot, would cool better...search goes on
