Eire phone sockets & modems
Discussion
I need to take a couple of PC's from our L/Derry office to our Dublin office and get some SMS software up and running on them, but the modems are just normal UK internal jobbys with standard UK phone plugs. Does anyone know if this will work with no issues in Eire, or if i'll need some sort of European converter for their sockets?

Hi Tony,
The hardware will work with out any problems, but we have different sockets in the walls here nad us RJ11 connectors.
You will need to get a converter, or use a different lead. Likely if they already some modem leads you will just be able to use those with your hardware.

If you're using dial up as oppposed to adsl you might find that some uk modems don't like the Irish phone system (even with the convertor). Had this problem with the onboard modem on a UK pc until I eventually went out and bought a separate modem. No idea why this should happen but a few people have had the same problem.

That's a new one on me.... All my UK modems have worked over here and I've brought over everything from a US Robotic 14.4 external to the latest run of the mill 56K jobbies. Both Over the years a multitude of laptops and PC box modems have always worked here.
Everthing went with out a problem
What issues did you have? Did it just never work or did it fail after a bit of use?
If it never worked I'd think it was just a cable a issue.
