Cannonball crazies clocked at 150mph
Discussion
Thought you might like to see this - making the news in Scotland.
From the Scotsman newspaper:
Mr Sharifi was recorded at 159mph in his Ferrari Spider 360, while Harrison was travelling at 155mph in his rare Porsche 933 Ruf after UK police tipped off their French counterparts that the convoy was on its way.
Gerald Harrison, 27, from Glasgow, and Marc Sharifi, 47, of Ongar, Essex, had their precious cars confiscated and spent two days in cells when they were caught shortly after arriving in France.
Organisers say they believe the vehicles will now be sold at auction by French authorities.

am i the only one that thinks that word is indicative of bias? thought the news was supposed to be impartial?
Confiscated and sold at auction.
These are the trappings of a proper socialist state. We can look forward to some of this outrage if Blair is allowed to continue.
Don't forget about PC159er familiarising himself with some vauxhall police car wasn't deemed to have been driving dangerously or called "crazy".

Couldn't agree more.
I'm sure everybody saw Brian Cox (thespian) with JC on Top Gear Sunday gone and his comments viz a vis how much freedom we're losing here.
As a society, the tendancy of the state to desire greater and greater powers of collective and individual monitoring is totalitarian, plain and simple.

do we have to sully the porsche forum with these retards antics?
I don't see them as retards. Unless you're talking about them being estate agents, in which case I agree

nowt wrong with 150mph unless the're saying thats no challenge on a french autoroute.
but doing it stickered up with "look at me look at me" pretend race livery is retarded.
punishment is totally disproportionate, fing outrageous and smacks of communist jealousy.
the french have always been there for us. when they need us.
maybe they are trying to recoup some of the $100bn oil contracts they lost in iraq

agree. sort of sums up the XXXXball type events to me. i.e. I have enough cash to buy a quick car, but lack the impetus/intelligence to organise a lower key trip of a similar nature myself with a group of mates, and hence be able to 'get away' with far more than possible in a massive, well publicised convey. Absolute kn0bheads in my opinion - for most of this type of driver, it's about straight line speed whenever possible, and generally making a c**t of yourself - as evidenced by several of the films 'documenting' the trip.
oh. come. ON.
you're honestly saying that had they not had stickers they wouldn't have been nicked? I'm afraid that unless they were actual go-faster stripes, 150mph is still 150mph, regardless of decals. its kind of fact, that.
plus, and i think this is significant, a porsche and a ferrari without decals going through a speed trap without stickers aren't exactly low-key, nes pas?
they took a risk, they got caught. we've all done it.
if one of you got nicked on here for doing tall speeds and we all jumped and down saying 'well, if you will insist on having a spoiler/ wheels/ body kit/ arms/ a head I'm sure you'd feel pretty miffed.
i haven't been following you folk, but I'm guessing that since we all own sports cars we've all tweaked the speed limit from time to time, so lets put the high horses back in the stable, shall we?

Nervy. I see what you've done with the punctuation there. Nice!
I'm not talking about the stickers per se, more the whole concept of XXXball type events. If you're doing 150 through a laser/radar, it doesn't matter if you driving an inflatable spacehopper - you're nicked. My point was rather the attention that these guys crave through 'liverying' (is that a word) their cars up....
PS on a pedantic note, I can either get off my high horse, or put the horses back in the stable (although I've never heard of that one, unless you've talking about shutting the door after they've bolted?). I'm not sure what a high horse is. Is it anything over 18h?

i was concerned that if we all just got off our high horses and left them there, they would cause a sight line obstruction to fellow drivers, (especially those of us that can barely see over their jewel encrusted steering wheels). therefore, i was suggesting a piece of mutually agreeable parking, to ease traffic flow in the area and general visibility. even high horses need shelter from the rain after all. you see? I'm always thinking, me.
as for the stickers, i know what you mean. only a wanker would blast across France all liveried up screaming for attention.

What would Gary think if he saw his old car dressed in lemon-mer-ring stickers?! Where did your Lemon Ring tour take you out of interest? At least the stickers were one colour Given the cost of the stickers, I'm curious as to why no one goes for a 'supercup' type look if they have a suitable donor vehicle (e.g. GT3)!

Exactly.
I have to say that I was initially tempted by one of these jaunts, but having witness the utter knobjockey behaviour exhibitied by many of them, I would rather chop off my own cock than be assocaited with them.
They took a chance, they got caught, they knew the risks. Fair do's.
If you want to drive like that, go to the Ring and let loose WHEN YOU GET THERE.
