full of virus and spam, pop ups and incomplete files... and you will never get the damn software off your system

Use emule, it takes longer but is much better, the files are complete and uncorrupted..

or for songs, use Soulseek.

Disclaimer downloading copyrighted material is illegal, i only have this software to look at the pretty buttons

Cabos.

You can't get more simple and straight forward.

It uses the same networks as limewire et all (gnuttella etc) but no fuss!!

Limewire isnt too bad. The search results are a tad limited these days but there is still plenty of content.

I'd recommend DC++ over the above. You must share a minimum amount before you are allowed on some hubs but thats good as it means there is more to search. You can find some specfic files on there. Downloads are amazingly fast (i've been told).

As with any of these P2P programs - make sure you have a good antivirus/anti spyware program running at all times and make sure your firewall is setup well if you have other PC's on the network. Make sure also that the program is only sharing out the data you want to be made public as som eof them just share your entire C drive out by default !!

I know we shouldn't discuss the download of copyrighted material on PH but, as these programs advocate it, they deserve it...

If you use Limewire (for example), search for Limewire Pro (using their own software) to get a version with more features such as not sharing your drives by default.

At the end of the day, Limewire, Bearshare, eDonkey et al will allow you to download illegal, copyrighted files and filth, along with more than your fair share of spyware and viruses.

You take yer chances...

Look at Shareaza, it uses many different networks, Edonkey, Limewire, Bearshare, Gnutella and more. Using it right now I'm currently connected to 6 neighbours, 2x Shareaza (gnutella), 1x Edonkey, 2x Limewrie and 1x Morph500 network. It can also handle Bittorrents.

Edited to say yes, they are used for many dodgy reasons but they are also very useful in sharing large files, finding old video clips (motor racing classics) or releasing software such as large add-ons for games and much more.
