Moving away from the somewhat boring Alonso vs Schumeister battle for 1st and 2nd WDC positions, we have a much more close-run three-way battle for the final podium step between Fisi, Kimi, and Massa (currently in that order).

Will Fisi and the dominant Renault machine stamp its authority?

Will McLaren-Mercedes polish the rough edges from their machine and grant Kimi a fair go?

Will Massa and the ever-improving Ferrari form see him snatch the prize from his more experienced rivals?

Who will earn the 3rd step on the podium at the end of this year?

(I'm hoping for Kimi.)

I think Kimi will do it. Althought the MacLaren hasn't got the pace to match the lead red and blue cars, it can certainly match or beat the second string offerings. Add to that the fact that Massa and Fisi will thow it off the track the same number of times that Kimis engine pops adn it should be pretty close.

De la Rosa could take points away from Massa and Fisi on occasions too methinks.

Que???

Alonos's off the McLaren at the end of this season.

The rumour is that KR is off to Renault to get a WDC. Renault are notoriously bad payers (hence why Alonso is off to McLaren), but they do have a car capable of delivering Driver and Constructor championships.

Kimi's already got he money from his years at McLaren, now he needs a title.
Alonso's already got his title(s) from his years at Renault, now all he needs is the loot.

Fair swap, I'd say

My head would like Kimi to get the third spot really, although it hurts to say it, I think that Ron Dennis and co have put enough effort in to warrant a result.

However, my heart will be with Massa, as a die hard Ferrari fan I've got no choice.
I wish that Schumacher wasn't the no 1 driver but he is and so will get my support as long as he wears red.

Nope - Alonso's off the Mclaren 'cos Ghosn was playing hardball over their future in the sport.

Ghosn has now confirmed Renault's F1 future, albeit too late to keep Alonso and is now offering a king's ransom (so that'll be half of Michael Schumacher's salary then) for a "top 3 driver". It appears that he has issued an edict that it must be a top 3 driver...which puts Briatore in a dificult position...or maybe it is a ploy by Ghosn to can Renault F1 in 2008???
