And you just know that 99mph was a 'kind' view of the actual speed...which was probably more like 110 I'll be bound.

Still. At least they've tried to show that no one is above prosecution...

So even the Solicitor General doesn't believe that Speed limits reflect the actual safe speed on roads.

If she doesn't, why should any of the rest of us?

7 days, fcuk me, i got 21 days for 104 on a clear empty 70mph dual carriageway.

She should resign, as its a conflict of interests now.

7 day ban actually means that she will be driven around by a chauffer AT OUR EXPENSE and probably in the bus lane of the M4 at speeds still in excess of 99mph

In a perverse way I am glad she did not get a 3 month ban

sigh.....

I've seen this story in a couple of places and no one mentions the make of car. From this, we can make a couple of assumptions.

1. Since this is a high-level politicians we're talking about, they're grotesquely overpaid and that means they're probably driving something quite expensive. i.e. something befitting their percieved status.

2. It probably isn't a British car (I'm betting German, probably a BMW or Mercedes). It used to be that someone spending the British taxpayer's money should spend it on something like a Jaguar or Bentley.

p.s. Yes, I know that Jaguar is owned by Ford and Bentley is owned by VAG but the cars are still built in Britain factories by British workers and that's enough. How many wholly-owned British car companies are left? Put another way, do we really expect the SG to drive a TVR or a Noble? Actually, it is probably good that she didn't or she'd have been going a lot faster and they wouldn't have been able to fudge the 99mph.

3. Speaking of which, does anyone seriously believe that she was really going 99mph? Or was she likely a good 10-15% above that and was cut some serious slack by the ticketing officer.

They just need to pull over 2 Jags now, I would split my sides. I hate the man, he makes my skin crawl. Then he could assault the copper and get locked up for being a thug....

99mph attracts a ban.

What an utter, utter farce. This government's lost touch with reality.

No sympathy for that woman, though. She should have been made to run 10 laps of Trafalgar Square....naked.

Errr.....second thoughts........doesn't bear thinking about.........

It was on the ITV news last night for about 10 seconds. It showed her getting in a Rover 800 (I think). Although that may not be the car she set the 99mph* speed in. Will be interesting to see if she takes public transport for the weeks ban...

Hey, that's a good point. Someone should ask her point-blank what she's going to do for the duration of the ban? Will she get a driver? And, if so, will it be be charged to the taxpayers or will she pay for it out of her own pocket?

Or, will she try out the public transportation system that seems to reflect the general state of government at the moment - i.e. lends itself to being described using words like "inept", "desultory", "disorganized", etc.

I'll eat my TVR if she spends a week waiting at freezing bus stops and stations. Can't see it somehow.
Bet we hear nothing more on this one.
Even if war wasn't looming it'd still be a good day to bury bad news...
