Short term car insurance?

My lodger has just returned to the UK after a six month spell on a Disney boat. He's got two months off, but is spending a month of that (in the middle) in Canada.

For the remaining disjoint four weeks, he wants to insure himself on his old car (which he signed over to me before leaving) so he can get around, etc. What would be the most effective way to do this? Are we going to need to sign the car back over to him to keep insurance people happy? Is it going to cost a fortune to do because it's short term? Who would be good to approach to do this?

If you've insured the car in the meantime, you should be able to add him onto the insurance on a temporary basis - probably cost £20-£50 depending on age, driving record etc. If you haven't insured it, high street brokers should be able to arrange two month's worth of cover - but you'll pay more than 1/6 of a year's premium - economy of scale and all that.
