Bleeding coolant
Discussion
Weather being what it is thought i would give the old girl a bleed today seeing that the temp was hovering around the 97 to 100c mark in traffic. Hissed for about 30 seconds tightend the screw back up and checked the water level. That 30 seconds was about 3/4 of a litre of coolant needed to top her up. Its dropped the temp by 4 degrees, now at 96 max.

You loosen the cap when hot until the pressure's dropped? And then refill when cold? I've got the same problem so I'll give it a go.
I've tried bleeding the system a couple of times by idling the engine with the cap off and refilling as the coolant/air bubbles out, all the way up to and beyond the fans kicking in, but without much success - still water 100-102deg, oil 97deg in traffic jams.(That's how the TVR Centre bled the system, and they said that air in the Speed 6 cooling system is a common problem and not easy to sort out.) BTW I had a new cap, sensors checked and system pressure tested.
Also, I get a watery gurgling noise (audible inside the car) for a second or so on opening the throttle from tickover, which seems to be air in the heater circuit. Anyone else had this - any ideas, or will better bleeding fix it?
