Any ideas how to reduce the heat in the car as it has got to the point where anything over 25 deg outside temperture the car is just uncomfortable to drive, going to Belgium in August wife has already said that if it is over 25 we will have to go in her car as its got aircon (merc SLK 320) much rather go in the TVR but its just to hot (even at motorway speeds)

unless you retrofit aircon it's pretty difficult to resolve this. It's the problem with generating heat under and inside a material that is inefficient at conducting/radiating heat. Presume you've found the eyeball vents in the footwell? These are pretty effective when the car's moving. I didn't find mine until the second summer! Also worth checking that the temperature control is properly adjusted and when it's on green there really is no hot water circulating through the matrix. The control on one Chim I tested just moved from red to green without any connection to anything so it was hot air all the time!

This is a common problem on griffs.I know the set up is different on the chim, but if you have the matrix valve even slighly letting coolant pass it makes such a difference, well worth checking out.The foolproof way to ensure the valve is fully closed is to take the matrix inlet and outlet pipes off in the engine bay, then put water down one of them with a hosepipe and see if it comes out of the other pipe.

You could also lag the metal heater pipes in the passenger footwell. Despite being reasonably covered up by the carpet, Ms1788 reported a noticeable reduction in temperature when I did mine. 15mm foam pipe lagging works a treat.

I recommend lagging the pipes in the battery box, if only because actively heating the ECU can't be a good thing.

Some people also recommend fitting the mod-wise 2 stage fan kit. It reduces under-bonnet temperatures (as 1/2 speed fans come in at a lower temp) and thus reduces heat-soak into the cabin.

Colinrob - make sure your heater valve is shutting off properly as others have already alluded. If you are getting heat all the time then something is wrong. Do NOT settle for answers that they all do that - they don't. I can use mine in this weather and it's ok.
Also, don't forget to take the roof off at every opportunity!

Roof off - SPF20 = sun tan and fun fun fun! Take some cold water, and a cool box in the back cubby hole, and you'll be fine!

Mine is just the same - top tip - don't wear a black shirt, I got those beautiful sweat salt marks after driving to Wales... not a good look!

Hope you win the battle - cos you'll never win the war!

Silly question, but the cubbies behind the seats are too small for a cool box. Is there another larger cubby that I'm missing?

You might get away with something like this

Doesn't look perfect (Actually not that bad from outside) but works!! 15mph+ Ambient air at a good rate at normal speeds much much better

Anyone got some silver flexi hose??

You can hook it under the steering column direct it backwards and no more sweaty

Shove some ice cubes in the end & instant Air-Con

Great pictures! But I was expecting to see the end of the tube disappearing up your trouser leg!

Ok, not the cubby holes, the area your dog would sit in... big enough for most cool boxes I think! Just remember not to grab the beers out of it!"

Or just buy a Chim with AirCon!

Used this whilst I was blatting back from the South of France at er some speed on the Peage and it was frankly too hot to have the roof off...

Thanks for all the replies will check out the heater matrix, always drive with the roof off (if its raining leave the tvr in the garage) but its got to the point where if it is raining I go to work in the BMW if it is too hot I go in the BMW hopefully it can be sorted, I am sure my 4.0 did not get so hot

Just a quick note to say Seasider's fancy pipework (ooo err!) might not work quite so well on a Chim, what with it's rakish and dramatic bonnet vents vs. the Griff's gurning 'smile' I've always found that at moderate speeds the intake position of the pipe has a pretty good flow of hot air off the exhausts, out the vents and past the mirror...
